Something new is taking shape at MACAM.

Twice a month, the museum opens up for shared moments of looking, making, listening, and exchanging.
A space where sculpture unfolds slowly—through encounters, gestures, and conversations.
Rooted in MACAM’s singular architecture and spirit, these sessions are designed for curious minds who like art to be experienced, not just observed.

More soon.

(Yes, there will be brunch.)

Sculpture Sunday — From shrapnel to sculpture, a tank emerges from the ruins of war.

More than 25 years after shrapnel tore into her home during the 1982 invasion, Ginane Makki Bacho transformed that debris into stark sculptures of military machines. By welding fragments of war into realistic forms, she makes violence — the most invasive detritus of civilization — both visible and unbearable. Through obsessive repetition of these figures, Bacho confronts traumatic realities, inviting viewers to do the same.

In this Sculpture Sunday, we spotlight Saba Sadr, whose art is shaped by landscapes, cultures, and connection.

Meet Saba Sadr — traveler and storyteller through form. Winner of MACAM’s 2014 sculpture competition, this bronze and stone piece reflects her passion for nature, dialogue, and social change. She brings art into public spaces, turning creativity into a tool for connection.

Bronze & Stone, ed. 1/3, 26 x 64 x 50 cm, 2014 — MACAM Collection

: Ghassan Zard – Turtles on the Rooftop 🐢
In Turtles on the Rooftop, Lebanese artist Ghassan Zard raises seventy-five resin tortoises from the ground, evoking the year 1975—the start of the Lebanese Civil War. These grounded, slow-moving forms suggest a quiet emergence, each bearing the weight of memory, silence, and aftermath. Their presence is steady and unblinking, like silent witnesses to a history that remains unresolved.

🌕 For one night only—Tuesday, July 29—twelve of the tortoises will be illuminated.

— Slow down. Look again. Let the sculpture speak.

With a deep sensitivity to stone, Alfred Basbous carved smooth, flowing forms that reveal the material’s inner life.
In this subtle abstraction of a face, his mastery lies in omitting the superfluous to let the texture, weight, and quiet vitality of the stone speak.
Each angle reveals something new, shaped by the interplay of the sculpture’s three elements.

Welcome to ! This week, we’re highlighting the evocative bronze sculptures of Leila Jabre-Jureidini — poetic reflections on modern life, memory, and fragility.

Her cube sculptures resemble fragments — like snapshots of emotion and experience. First shaped in clay, they retain the memory of the human touch. Once cast in bronze, they bear the marks of existence — burden, resilience, and transformation. Some are so weathered by life’s pressures that they appear broken or distorted.

Unravelling, bronze, 31 × 26 × 26 cm, 2012
Tearing Away, bronze, 21 x 22 x 24 cm, 2012
📍On view at MACAM
