Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival B&B is dedicated to supporting and promoting SWANA musicians, with emphasis on artistic merit

Dedicated to promoting the Arab region’s independent music with emphasis on strong artistic merit, Beirut & Beyond was founded in 2013, in partnership with Oslo World Music Festival, and quickly succeeded in positioning itself as a key player on the map of regional festivals and showcases. As a platform for meetings, showcases and exchange, Beirut & Beyond encourages networking and collaboration. It furthermore aims to offer solutions to the urgent needs of the young Arab independent music scene, such as the necessity to provide outlets for its bustling artistic productions.Today, Beirut & Beyond is directed by co-founder Amani Semaan and welcomes a different regional artist every year as guest curator of the festival. Given the current situation in Lebanon, Beirut & Beyond is working on supporting the local scene through a series of programs, workshops, and residencies for all Lebanon-based musicians.

Meet the mentors of MSP03 💕

As part of the MSP03 Bootcamp, taking place on September 11, 12, 13, 19 & 20, our selected artists will take part in a series of workshops and masterclasses led by music professionals and artists from Lebanon, the region, and beyond.

Throughout the bootcamp, Fadi Tabbal, Maggie Doueihi, Blu Fiefer, Amani Semaan, Majd El-Baba, Alex Davidson, Etyen, Yazan Nabulsi, Jad Atoui, Julia Sabra, Firas Abou Fakher, and Khyam Allami will share their knowledge and experience across topics ranging from artist management and career strategy to music marketing, live shows, booking and touring, distribution, royalties, rights, and artistic practice.

Michel Maouad spent time exploring new ideas and developing his musical practice during his MSP03 artistic residency.

A singer-songwriter from Mount Lebanon, Michel draws from Americana and Midwestern influences, creating music that reflects on identity, the quiet patterns of everyday life, and the uncertainties that come with growing older.

Following the release of his first solo album, Good Thing We Cleaned The Stairs, in December 2025, the residency gave Michel dedicated time and space to experiment, reflect, and continue shaping his sound.

خلال النسخة الثالثة من برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين، خصّص ميشال معوّض وقتًا لاستكشاف أفكار جديدة وتطوير ممارسته الموسيقية.

ميشال، مغني وكاتب أغاني من جبل لبنان، يستمد إلهامه من موسيقى أمريكانا وتأثيرات منطقة الغرب الأوسط الأميركي، ليقدّم موسيقى تتأمل في الهوية، وتفاصيل الحياة اليومية، ومشاعر عدم اليقين التي ترافق التقدّم في العمر.

بعد إصدار ألبومه المنفرد الأول، “Good Thing We Cleaned The Stairs”, في شهر ديسمبر الماضي، أتاحت له الإقامة مساحة ووقتًا مخصّصين للتجريب والتأمل ومواصلة صياغة هويته الموسيقية.

During her MSP03 artistic residency, Pol spent time exploring her sound and developing new ideas around her music.

A Beirut-based singer-songwriter and voice teacher, Pol blends indie and pop influences with vocal harmonies, loops, and layered textures to create dreamy, atmospheric sounds that reflect her honest and personal lyrics.

The residency gave her dedicated time and space to continue working on her full-length album and explore the Arabic language in her songwriting, following the release of her first Arabic single, “Ken Helme.”

خصصت بول وقتاً لاستكشاف عالمها الصوتي وتطوير أفكار موسيقية جديدة, خلال النسخة الثالثة من برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين.

بول مغنية ومؤلفة ومدربة صوت مقيمة في بيروت, تجمع بين تأثيرات موسيقى “الإندي” والـ “بوب”، تمزج بين تأثيرات موسيقى “الإندي” والـ “بوب” وبين التناغمات الصوتية وحلقات التكرار الموسيقية والأنسجة الصوتية المتراكبة، لتخلق أصواتاً حالمة تتناغم ببراعة مع كلماتها الصادقة وذات الطابع الشخصي.

لقد أتاحت هذه الإقامة الفنية الوقت والمساحة المطلوبة لها لتطوير ألبومها واستكشاف استخدام اللغة العربية في مؤلفاتها الموسيقية، وذلك, مع إصدار أغنيتها الأولى باللغة العربية “كان حلمي”.

During their MSP03 artistic residency, Alsilk explored new ways of blending voice, strings, and electronics into an immersive sonic experience.

Alsilk is an electro-acoustic duo formed by Romy Melhem and Khaled Omran, bringing together lyrics and vocals, violin, double bass, and electronic sounds to create cross-genre music that reflects on human and urban transformation.
The residency gave the duo time and space to experiment, develop new ideas, and further shape their musical language, drawing from their diverse artistic practices across music, theatre, dance, and performance.

استكشف ثنائي السِّلك, أثناء النسخة الثالثة من برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين, طرقاً جديدة للمزج بين الصوت البشري، والآلات الوترية، والمؤثرات الإلكترونية، لخلق تجربة صوت.

يتألف السِّلك من رومي ملحم وخالد عمران، ويقدمان مزيجاً يجمع بي الكلمات والأداء الصوتي، وآلتي الكمان والكونترباص، والأصوات الإلكترونية، لابتكار موسيقى تتجاوز القوالب التقليدية وتعكس التحولات البشرية والحضرية.

Forged in the static between Lebanon’s rural silence and Beirut’s noisy concrete, HADI’s work explores tension as a space between control and chaos.

His sound is built around heavy atmospheric pressure and cold, unyielding grooves, using the voice as a rhythmic instrument to create a sharp and controlled sense of catharsis.

Through projects such as Al Sadd 8 and Al Fam Wal Fakkayn («الفم والفكين»), HADI brings music and visual elements together as one cohesive system, stripping everything back to expose the raw mechanics beneath.

During his MSP03 artistic residency, HADI had the time and space to experiment, develop new ideas, and continue shaping his musical language.

بين سكون الريف وصخب المدينة، تتشكل أعمال هادي وتستكشف التوتر كمساحة بين السيطرة والفوضى.

صوته يقوم على إيقاعات صارمة، فيستخدم الحنجرة كأداة إيقاعية ليصو إحساسًا محدّدًا ومتحكّمًا من التفريغ العاطفي.

من خلال مشاريع مثل «السد ٨» و«الفم والفكين»، يجمع هادي بين الموسيقى والعناصر البصرية كنظام موحّد، ويختزل كل شيء ليكشف الآليات الخام الكامنة تحته.

خلال إقامته في النسخة الثالثة من برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين، حصل هادي على الوقت والمساحة لتجربة أفكار جديدة وتطوير لغته الموسيقية.

The MSP03 artistic residency continues with Ralph Chbeir, a Lebanese bassist, musician, and architect whose work explores sound as a material, shaped by intuition, space, and process.

Hosted at Stereo Kawalis, the residency gave Ralph the time and space to experiment, explore new ideas, and continue developing his artistic practice.

Since 2023, Ralph has released three albums under his name and collaborated with musicians and multimedia artists. His work also extends beyond music, spanning film scores, live cine-concerts, and concerts-dessinés.

تستمر النسخة الثالثة من برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين مع رالف شبير، عازف الباس والموسيقي والمهندس المعماري اللبناني، الذي يستكشف من خلال عمله الصوت كمادة، مُشكّلاً بالحدس والمكان والإبداع.

استضاف “ستيريو كواليس” هذه الإقامة، التي أتاحت لرالف الوقت والمساحة للتجريب واستكشاف أفكار جديدة ومواصلة تطوير فنه.

منذ عام ٢٠٢٣، أصدر رالف ثلاثة ألبومات بإسمه وتعاون مع موسيقيين وفنانين متعددي الوسائط. ولا يقتصر عمله على الموسيقى فقط، بل يشمل أيضاً تأليف الموسيقى التصويرية للأفلام، وعروض رسوم متحركة حية .

The first MSP03 artistic residency has come to an end, with guitarist/composer/educator Joe Awwad, and his project Tarab Yadour.

Hosted at Oakenhouse, the residency offered Joe dedicated time and space to explore new ideas, refine his sound, and further develop his artistic practice, alongside Khalil El Baba, Joey Nammour, and Pavlo Wardini.

Blending jazz improvisation with Arabic taqaseem, African rhythms, and classical influences, Joe’s musical language reflects the spirit of discovery at the heart of the Musicians Support Program.

This is the first of nine artistic residencies taking place as part of MSP03. Stay tuned as we follow the artists throughout their creative journeys and share what emerges along the way.

اختُتمت/انتهت أول إقامة فنية ضمن برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين بمشاركة العازف والملحن والمُدرّس جو عواد ومشروعه “طرب يدور”. استضافت أوكنهاوس هذه الدورة، التي وفرت لجو مساحةً ووقتاً كافيين لاستكشاف أفكار جديدة، وصقل أسلوبه الموسيقي، وتطوير ممارسته الفنية، بالتعاون مع خليل البابا، جوي نمور وبافلو ورديني.

يمزج جو في موسيقاه بين الارتجال الجازي والتقاسيم العربية والإيقاعات الإفريقية والتأثيرات الكلاسيكية، ما يعكس روح الاكتشاف وهو في قلب برنامج الدعم للموسيقيين. هذه هي الأولى من بين تسع إقامات فنية تُقام كجزء من النسخة الثالثة.

Introducing MSP03: The Third Edition of the Musicians Support Program

As part of the MASAR program, and with the support of the Institut Français du Liban, Beirut and Beyond is proud to launch MSP03 - a comprehensive support program designed to empower the next generation of artists in Lebanon.

Building on the success of previous editions in 2020 and 2023, MSP03 will support nine emerging artists through a holistic journey that includes professional training, artistic residencies, EP production, release planning, SACEM registration, and opportunities for local touring.

Following an open call, the partners’ committee selected nine artists, prioritizing gender balance, with a focus on proven potential, career positioning, and artistic creation. 

Artists selected: Ralph Chbeir, Alsilk, Gatto, HADI, Pól, Joe Aouad, Michel Maouad, xlxmkhfi and Bliss. 

We look forward to discovering the new music, ideas, and artistic visions that will emerge along the way.

Nous vous présentons la troisième édition du Programme de soutien aux musiciens : MSP03.

Dans le cadre du programme MASAR et avec le soutien de l’Institut Français du Liban, Beirut and Beyond est fier de lancer MSP03, un programme de soutien complet destiné à accompagner la génération émergente d’artistes libanais.

Suivant le succès des éditions précédentes en 2020 et 2023, MSP03 accompagnera neuf nouveaux artistes à travers un parcours global comprenant formation professionnelle, résidences artistiques, production d’EP, planification de la sortie de leur album, inscription à la SACEM et opportunités de tournées locales.

Suite à un appel à candidatures, le comité des partenaires a sélectionné neuf artistes, en veillant à un équilibre hommes-femmes et en reconnaissant le potentiel, le positionnement professionnel et la créativité artistique de chacun des candidats. 

Les artistes sélectionnés sont : Ralph Chbeir, Alsilk, Gatto, HADI, Pól, Joe Aouad, Michel Maouad, xlxmkhfi, et Bliss. 

Nous avons hâte de découvrir leurs nouveaux sons, leurs idées et visions artistiques qui seront révélés au fil de ce parcours.

Introducing the second article from The Craft of Writing About Music & Sound Workshop with Chiri Choukeir 💕

Chiri Choukeir is a freelance journalist, photojournalist, and musician based in Lebanon. Her work spans reporting, visual storytelling, and music, with contributions to publications including An-Nahar and L’Orient-Le Jour. Through her writing, she explores complex social and cultural topics with a strong interest in data-driven research and human-centered narratives.

In her article, The Broadcast Journalist Interviews Charbel Haber on a Rainy Sunday, Chiri captures a conversation with musician and composer Charbel Haber, weaving together observation, dialogue, and reflection to explore the intersections of sound, memory, and artistic practice.

The Craft of Writing About Music & Sound unfolded as a 3-day workshop led by (aka — writer, researcher, creative) and (scholar, writer, researcher), followed by a 4-day hands-on implementation during BBIMF 2025.

Over the course of the program, participants explored music writing, socio-cultural research, and documentation — moving between theory and practice, listening and reflection, and the many ways sound can be written into memory.
