Dear friends, to anyone who has been following my work on Instagram .lettering, please know that my account has been compromised. I am starting a new page

PS. I did not win a car, nor could I care to win one. I'd much rather a comfy pair of sneakers. I'm trying to build a brand and there will never be room for this nonsense on my page.

Thank you for your continued support.
İt makes what I do all the more worthwhile.

"The lives we make never seem to ever get us anywhere but dead"... and other words from one of my favourite Soundgarden tracks.

İt's been an intense past few weeks. Don't know if everyone else is going through the same thing, but I feel like I'm running a gauntlet. I keep telling myself that I need to write, I need to practice...not because I have to, but because I want to! And no matter how many things I tick off of my to do list, things just keep coming up.

And then words like these come to mind, and it makes me think. I feel there is so much wisdom, so many gems, buried in lyrics. İt could be just a phrase, but still so impactful and insightful.

I've taken quite a bit of time off, and that space is actually helping me to reconsider how I approach my work. A complete stylistic overhaul isn't the objective here, but rather trying to refine my existing approach. There is a balance that I am trying to achieve and it is proving to be quite elusive.
Anyways, I'll figure it out eventually I suppose.

Start. Whatever you want to do, just start. Start anywhere. It doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be perfect, you can always fix it later. Keep at it until you succeed. You eventually will.

Are we in agreement on this one?

Leave me a comment. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Loving every minute of these writing sessions.

It's so important to allow yourself that space, when you write, to not worry too much about how perfect your letters are and what the page will look like when you're done. If you are practicing calligraphy, I feel this approach takes a whole lot of the pressure off. Know that you will get better with practice. That is an inevitable outcome. And if you're writing is a journaling exercise of sorts, it'll make the process so much more liberating.

It's been too long. Way too long! Couldn't be happier to be back at it!

Here they are, a million and one thoughts all crammed into one A4 sheet of paper. As İ produced this work, it occurred to me that İ have been taught how to write essays, reports, research papers, short stories and the like and throughout the learning process there has always been a pronounced emphasis on order and structure. As a student of calligraphy and lettering, İ have been met with even more rules on how to write properly. And quite frankly, İ am finding that too many rules and too much structure will suck the life and fun out of anything. İnstead of being a liberating experience, writing has at times become a laborious process that is riddled with self-doubt, feelings of inadequacy, and a sinking feeling that the aesthetic 'wow' factor will forever remain elusive.

Why can't writing simply be about self expression in form as well as in content? İsn't that what writing is essentially all about?

İ am finding it useful to constantly be learning how to write properly and to use these skills towards finding my voice and giving expression to the things that İ can only express through writing.

Anyways, İ thought it might be useful to share that. What are your thoughts on the matter?
