The Castle of Monte Cristo by Fadi Balhawan , is inspired by The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, unfolding as a reflection on vengeance, transformation, and the long path toward inner liberation. The work traces a figure shaped by isolation and betrayal, where exile becomes a crucible for intellectual and emotional rebirth.
Rendered through layered ink and mixed media, the piece meditates on how knowledge becomes both shelter and weapon, guiding the passage from suffering to self-mastery. The castle is reimagined as more than a place of imprisonment; it stands as an inner architecture of endurance, where the self is reconstructed through time, reflection, and lived experience before freedom can truly be claimed.
