Hoje é comemorado o Dia Mundial da Língua Portuguesa. Estabelecida inicialmente em 2009, pela CPLP - Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa, com o propósito de promover o sentido de comunidade e de pluralismo dos falantes do português, a data foi reiterada em 2019 pela UNESCO. Na ocasião, governos, organizações internacionais e sociedade civil celebram a relevância do idioma como parte da identidade dos povos lusófonos. A data celebra a importância do português: língua de quase 300 milhões de pessoas, em quatro continentes, além de ser a mais falada no Hemisfério Sul. O português é, ademais, idioma trabalho de diversas organizações internacionais e com crescente presença no comércio mundial.
Como parte das celebrações desta data especial, a Embaixada do Brasil em Beirute e o Instituto Guimarães Rosa - Beirute, em parceria com a editora Dar al-Rafidain, promovem a conferência virtual “Grande Sertão em Árabe: 70 anos de uma travessia literária”, a realizar-se com transmissão ao vivo no dia 7 de maio, às 17h00 (horário de Beirute). O evento abordará a tradução da obra emblemática de Guimarães Rosa para a língua árabe.
Today marks World Portuguese Language Day. The date was first established in 2009 by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), with the purpose of promoting a sense of community and pluralism among Portuguese speakers, and was reaffirmed in 2019 by UNESCO. On this occasion, governments, international organizations, and civil society celebrate the relevance of the language as part of the identity of Portuguese-speaking peoples. The date highlights the importance of Portuguese: a language spoken by almost 300 million people across four continents, and the most widely spoken language in the Southern Hemisphere. Portuguese is also a working language of several international organizations and has a growing presence in global trade.
As part of the celebrations of this special date, the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut and the Instituto Guimarães Rosa – Beirut, in partnership with Dar alrafidain دار الرافدين Publishing House, are hosting the virtual conference “Grande Sertão em Árabe: 70 anos de uma travessia literária”, to be held with live streaming on May 7 at 5:00 p.m. (Beirut time). The event will explore the translation into Arabic of the emblematic work by João Guimarães Rosa.
