Eves On Wheels

Eves On Wheels Celebrating Women and their Bicycles. Some ride for the sheer love of it, while others consciously break norms and traditions.

Eves On Wheels is a project that focuses on women – Eves – riding bicycles in conservative areas and/or male-dominated societies. To some Eves, cycling has proven to be a bold move: they stand their ground in a male dominated society and to claim their right for equality and self-hood. Since starting the project in mid-July 2015 and up until the date of this document, the project portrayed Eves in

both Beirut and Tripoli. “Eves on Wheels” has since been growing, and Halawani has interviewed over 25 Eves so far. Given the interest the project has generated in other countries, Natheer hopes to take the project abroad, especially to Pakistan, Algeria, France and Iraq. Discussions with concerned organizations are currently underway to secure funds. About the photographer:
Natheer Halawani, 30, is an engineer by profession, and photographer by heart. His work has been featured in several local and international media (The Guardian, CNN, L’Orient Le Jour, etc.). Natheer who hails from Tripoli focuses his lens usually on people. He has extensive experience in educational photography, photojournalism and documentary photography. Beautiful stories of cycling women from all over the world. Enjoy!

5 Things you won't face when riding a bicycle :)
Hilariously serious video by our friends at The Chain Effect promoting for their upcoming day on April 25th across the country.

In the presence of his excellency Mr. Jan Waltmans, ambassador of the Netherlands, Eves On Wheels celebrated its 5th event in Warche 13 ورشة ١٣. The evening started out with a bike ride around Mina, organized by Vélo Route and BuyCycle, in which the Ambassador shared a bike ride with the Eves. The ride was followed with a gathering at Warche13 during which the Eves have engaged in a discussion with the audience regarding the improvement done so far, the impact each of the Eves is implicating, and the hopes and dreams for the near future.

We would like to thank Mr. Waltmans for being so humble in joining us in our event, and I personally would like to extend gratitude to the dutch people for being role models for the cycling culture globally.

And last but not least, many thanks for Hadi Hajar Photography for the great work on the video.

What was once considered out of the norm, is now a regular call to celebrate life with women on bikes. Founded by Natheer two years ago, the Eves on Wheels project is back this year gaining the attention of the Ambassador of the Netherlands. Join us on April 2nd for a ride around Mina followed by a dynamic discussion at Warche 13. Come meet the Eves and converse with the Ambassador in a friendly and supportive environment.

As we get ready for April 2nd, meet the project's newest Eve, Zaynab Mrad.

She's an art enthusiast and an environmental freak. Zaynab started cycling using her brother's bicycle and got instantly hooked. She has been cycling everywhere and using the bicycle to commute in Tripoli for a year now, and uses the bicycle to raise awareness among her peers. Zaynab experiences very little catcalling, but when she does she simply ignores it. In fact, there's more positive support than catcalling, she says.
