On 10 June 2017 Astana EXPO-2017 opens the doors of Astana Contemporary Art Center - an exhibition space devoted to display contemporary art, investigating new ideas, new genres and discourses. Distinctive program during EXPO-2017 will showcase contemporary art exhibitions, educational conferences, lectures, workshops, screenings and an inclusive program built with Kazakh and international artists
. The “EXPO 2017 cultural and entertainment program” resonates with the values specific for every International exhibition: global scale, unique experience, partnership, intercultural dialog and interaction, education and entertainment, i.e. edutainment. The Astana Contemporary Art Center exhibition and educational program is created to showcase innovative projects for a broad audience» - said Marat Omarov, Director of Astana EXPO-2017 Content and Event Management Department. Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais, (France, Paris) and Garage Museum of Contemporary Art (Russia, Moscow) represent major events for the program in collaboration with Astana Contemporary Art Center. ARTISTS & ROBOTS is an original art exhibition project conceived by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux-Grand Palais, and is the very first art show to explore a new page of art history: the robot as the artist. Throughout art history, many artists have dreamt of building a machine capable of producing art works. We can mention the “cyclograveur” by Jean Tinguely (1959), a bicycle for painting. The concept of the “art machine” has always been a part of many artists’ dreams and researches. In the second part of the 20th Century and the beginning of the 21st Century, with the incredible progress of new technologies, artists have found new ways of creating new and innovative art machines. Garage Museum of Contemporary Art will be presenting its exhibition and public programs on the first level of Astana Contemporary Art Center. We are excited to bring contemporary art to every visitor individually.
