Sadu House Sadu Center & Museum that promotes Kuwait's Traditional Textile Arts. It is the home of Al Sadu Society.

Al Sadu Society is dedicated to preserving, documenting and promoting the rich and diverse textile heritage of the Kuwaiti Bedouin, from the nomadic weaving of the desert through to the urban weaving of the town. We celebrate the values of productivity and creativity of the nation’s past generation, weaving together a cultural identity for both present and future generations. Begun in 1978, as a p

rivate initiative, by a group of concerned Kuwaitis who wished to preserve a fast disappearing, yet intrinsic, cultural identity, the Al Sadu Project was founded. In 1991, soon after the liberation of Kuwait, the Sadu Project was transformed into Al Sadu Weaving Co-operative Society. This is a venture owned and run by the weavers and artisans themselves, with all profits going to these, the shareholders. The Society is managed by members of a board of shareholders and an advisory committee headed by the Patron, honorary president Sheikha Altaf Al-Sabah.

ُقيمت تحت رعاية المجلس الوطني للثقافة والفنون والآداب، قدمت جمعية السدو معرض “ما وراء النول: حوارات معاصرة مع السدو”، في معهد الشرق الأوسط.

وجمع المعرض نخبة من الفنانين المشاركين في برنامج الإقامة الفنية لمبادرة سدي، حيث قدمت أعمالهم قراءات معاصرة للغة البصرية للسدو. وساهم هذا العرض في إبراز عمق التبادل الثقافي والفني ودعم الحوار المستمر وبناء شراكات مستدامة.

ويستمر المعرض في استقبال زواره في معهد الشرق الأوسط حتى أغسطس 2026.

Under the patronage of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, AlSadu Society presented the exhibition “Beyond the Loom: Contemporary Dialogues with AlSadu,” at the Middle East Institute.

The exhibition brought together a distinguished group of artists from the Sadu Art and Design Initiative (SADI) residency program, whose works engage with AlSadu’s visual language through contemporary perspectives. This presentation highlighted the depth of cultural and artistic exchange, contributing to ongoing dialogue and the development of sustainable collaborations.

The exhibition will continue to welcome visitors at the Middle East Institute through August 2026.

المستوى الأول :

النسيج المسطح ونقشة الضلعة

بعد الانتهاء من المستوى الأول تتمكن المتدربة من :

1. اختيار الخيوط المناسبة لحياكة السدو

2. فرد وتنيير الخيوط
بطريقة صحيحة

3. حياكة السدو المسطح ونقشة الضلعة بطريقة صحيحة

5. إنتاج قطعتين من السدو ( مسطح - نقشة الضلعة )

من الساعة ١٠ صباحا حتى ١٢.٣٠ مساءً

Join our Insij courses to learn the art of Traditional Kuwaiti Weaving (AlSadu) with our experienced weavers.

Level One:

Flat Weaving and Al-Dhulah Pattern

Upon completing Level One, the trainee will be able to:

1. Choose the appropriate threads for weaving Sadu.
2. Properly prepare the threads (warp).
3. Thread the loom correctly.
4. Weave flat Sadu and the Al-Dhulah pattern accurately.
5. Produce two pieces of Sadu (flat - Al-Dhulah pattern).

في ختام مشاركتها في أسبوع الكويت في واشنطن العاصمة، والذي أُقيم تحت رعاية المجلس الوطني للثقافة والفنون والآداب، قدّمت جمعية السدو معرض «ما وراء النول: حوارات معاصرة مع السدو» في معهد الشرق الأوسط.

In conclusion of its participation in Kuwait Week in Washington, D.C., held under the patronage of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, AlSadu Society presented the exhibition “Beyond the Loom: Contemporary Dialogues with AlSadu,” at the Middle East Institute.
