Project: "Sanctum" Exhibition Development and Curation

"Sanctum" is an intimate solo exhibition by Dr. Jawaher Al Bader showcasing multiple series of paintings created over the past four years.

Collectively, the artworks explore her personal journey of self-discovery from innocence to maturity. Through this exploration, she finds solace in her art, which becomes her secure space for both expression and meditation.

From start to finish, Sanctum serves as a window into the Al Bader’s soul, inviting us, the viewers, to intimately engage with the pieces and establish connections with our own inner sanctums.

The exhibition was held at Sultan Gallery from 26 March - 18 April 2024.

Project: SADI Studio Exhibition Curation

“Traces of Nostalgia” is a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring work by Kuwaiti product designer Hanadi Al Marzouq that rethinks the phenomena of collective memory and lost heritage as a result of the oil legacy.

This exhibition aims to highlight the imbalance that resulted from the sudden flow of oil wealth and consumerism, as well as examining the shift of gender roles during this period of modernity. What if our heritage crafts and their narratives were recontextualized to fit today’s world? How would these alternative narratives allow us to revive our collective memory of a fading past?

Using an array of media, including textiles, video, and installation art, “Traces of Nostalgia,” invites the viewer to reflect on the importance of preserving our heritage as it slowly dissipates; an indirect call-to-action for cultural awakening.

The exhibition is on view till May 6th.

Project: Art Residency Development/Management/Exhibition Curation

“Between Two Worlds” is a duo exhibition featuring work by Kuwaiti artists Dana Al Rashid and Mohammad Al Hemd, curated by Visual Therapy.

The exhibition is a culmination of a two month long residency held at the Promenade Culture Center which invited the artists to respond to the theme of ‘identity’ in the contemporary context.

How does the interconnection of tradition, ancestry and culture define and shape our identity? Using different techniques and styles each artist invites reflection on stories, ideas, and issues connected to the past and present.

Two different medium presentations by Dana Al Rashid explore the effects of consumerism on the standards of beauty and how it challenges our notion of identity. Working with both textiles and animation, she immerses the audience with evocative symbolism, questioning our cultural values and norms.

Taking on a different approach to the theme, Mohammed Al Hemd presents a sculptural installation inspired by traditional folklore and storytelling. The result is fairly interpretative artwork alluding to past civilizations and mythology, yet remaining contemporary in presentation.

By bringing the works of both artists together at this exhibition, we reflect on two different conceptions of identity, inviting new conversations and dialogues with our audiences.

Project: “The Ship and the Sail” Sculpture
Artist: Mattar Bin Lahej (UAE)

Visual Therapy was commissioned to oversee the full management of this project from concept to completion. This involved working directly with both the artist and NBK to ensure all project needs are met and delivered.

Designed by Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej, the 15m sculpture takes inspiration from and combines elements of originality, modernity, stability and development.

The sculpture depicts several ships molded into a single form with the sails of the ships moving in one direction. The inscribed calligraphy on its sails illustrates the 1952 Amiri Decree, a defining moment in the bank’s establishment and history.
