In Greek mythology, “Arachne” was celebrated for her exceptional weaving and needlework skills, abilities said to rival those of the gods. She even dared to challenge Athena, the goddess of crafts. However, her work, which boldly exposed the flaws and misdeeds of Zeus and other Greek deities, provoked the wrath of the gods. As a result, Arachne was cursed and transformed into a spider, condemned to weave webs for eternity. In this exhibition, artists, as Arachne’s heirs, embody her spirit of defiance against the absolute power of the ancient gods and her commitment to truth. With fresh perspectives, they freely explore diverse materials and forms of expression, interpreting and expanding their craft with creativity within contemporary art. This exhibition aims to provide audiences with a rich and profound artistic experience.
The exhibition includes works that utilize fiber or yarn as materials, incorporating techniques such as weaving, knitting, crochet, and embroidery, as well as pieces that express Arachne’s essence from a humanities perspective.
