The works Koen van den Broek focuses on the cracks and traces that remain on the surface of the road. He brings small clues found in broken asphalt, traffic markings, and the edges of the roadway to the center of the canvas.
On the painted surface, enlarged cracks, lane lines, and tar marks intersect and reveal the time and forces accumulated on the skin of the city. By enlarging and recomposing these fragments, the artist turns the road into a pictorial scene that exposes the structures and tensions that underlie the city, rather than a landscape in itself. The works from this period invite us to see the urban surface as a material landscape, bringing the ground-once the background of modern landscape painting-to the very foreground of contemporary painting.
쿤 반 덴 브룩은 갈라진 아스팔트, 교통 표식, 도로의 가장자리에서 발견되는 작은 단서들을 화면의 중심으로 끌어온다.
캔버스 위에서는 확대된 크랙과 차선, 타르 자국이 서로 교차하며 도시 표면에 축적된 시간과 힘을 드러낸다. 작가는 이러한 단편들을 확대하고 재구성하여 도로를 하나의 풍경이 아니라 도시를 떠받치는 구조와 긴장을 드러내는 회화적 장면으로 전환한다. 이 시기의 작업은 도시를 지탱하는 표면을 하나의 물질적 풍경으로 바라보게 하며, 근대 풍경화의 배경이었던 땅을 동시대 회화의 전면으로 끌어올린다.
