「파노라마적 상상력과 공감의 반경」

이번 강연에서는 2018년부터 이어져 온 함양아의 장기 예술 연구 프로젝트 ‘정의되지 않은 파노라마’를 마정연 교수가 새로운 관점에서 살펴봅니다. ‘파노라마’라는 개념을 중심으로 작품 속 상상력과 그 작동 방식을 탐색하고, 장대익 교수의 『공감의 반경』(2022)을 참고해 작가의 작품 세계를 깊이 있게 이해해 보고자 합니다.

Solo exhibition of Jim Dine at PIBI Gallery titled ‘My Words & Pinocchio’ illuminates how the artist’s signature symbols and language acquire new form within the picture plane and across space, and how the acts of ‘writing’ and ‘drawing’ interlock closely to create image and surface. The exhibition turns its attention to the acts of writing and drawing that underlie his practice, bringing together a new body of work rooted in these foundational gestures.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁
Jim Dine is a seminal American artist whose prolific and expansive career spans over six decades, encompassing painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, poetry, and performance. Although Dine’s work is often associated with art movements such as Neo-Dada, Pop Art, and Neo-Expressionism, his artistic practice is distinguished by its deeply autobiographical nature and rich personal symbolism. Additionally, personal symbols such as hearts, bathrobes, Pinocchio, and palettes appear throughout his varied oeuvre, evolving through different visual interpretations over time. These motifs function not merely as decorative elements but as profound narrative devices, reflecting the artist’s identity and inner world. Poetry has long at the core of Dine’s artistic practice.

피비갤러리 짐 다인 개인전 《My Words & Pinocchio》는 작가의 작업의 바탕인 ‘쓰기(write)’와 ‘그리기(draw)’에 집중한 신작을 소개합니다. 피노키오 드로잉과 조각, 자작시 드로잉, wall drawing을 통해 짐 다인의 대표적 상징과 언어가 화면과 공간 안에서 어떻게 새롭게 형성되는지를 보여주고, 동시에 ‘쓰기’와 ‘그리기’가 서로 맞물리며 하나의 형상과 표면을 만들어가는 방식을 조명합니다.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁
짐 다인은 60여 년에 걸쳐 회화, 드로잉, 판화, 조각, 사진, 시, 퍼포먼스 등 다양한 매체를 넘나들며 폭넓은 작업 세계를 구축해온 미국의 대표적인 아티스트이다. 짐 다인의 작업은 네오다다(Neo-Dada), 팝 아트(Pop Art), 네오 익스프레셔니즘(Neo-Expressionism) 등의 미술 운동과 형식적으로 연결될 수 있으나, 그의 예술 세계는 자전적 서사와 개인적 상징성을 핵심으로 삼는다는 점에서 차별화됩니다. 또한, ‘하트’, ‘가운’, ‘피노키오’, ‘팔레트’와 같은 개인적인 상징물들은 그의 작업 전반에 걸쳐 반복적으로 등장하며, 시기별 다양한 조형적 해석을 통해 변주되며, 이러한 상징들은 단순한 장식적 요소를 넘어, 작가의 정체성과 내면을 반영하는 핵심적 서사 장치로 기능합니다.

PIBI Gallery participates in Independent, New York from May 14 to 17, with a solo presentation by Kyojun Lee, as his New York debut.

Through this solo booth, PIBI Gallery presents a chronological overview of Lee Kyojun’s artistic practice. Beginning with his conceptual photographic works from the 1980s, the presentation brings together key works from each period, including his paper works and paintings exploring grid structures in the 1990s, the Void series introduced in 2009, and the “Translucent Canvas” works initiated after 2020.

피비갤러리는 5월 14일부터 5월 17일까지 뉴욕에서 열리는 인디펜던트 2026에 이교준 작가의 솔로부스로 참여합니다.

피비갤러리는 이번 솔로 부스를 통해 이교준의 작업 세계를 연대기적으로 조망합니다. 80년대 개념적 사진 작업을 시작으로 90년대 그리드 구조를 시도한 종이 작업과 회화, 2009년 발표한 Void 시리즈, 그리고 2020년 이후 시작된 ‘비치는 캔버스’ 작업에 이르기까지 시기별 주요 작업을 함께 선보입니다.
