The unwanted document, Photography Journal of Usadan
This book documents Usadan from 2013 through 2016, where cultural diversity flourishes and order is restored in the midst of the chaotic redevelopment plans.
This society exists in a time when the is prevalent whereby people believe that Korean wealth necessitates the deconstruction of old towns to create new residential areas. This book covers Usadan, where redevelopment is also being planned, but because of various conflicting interests, has become a slum for 20 or more years. The old buildings in this town therefore holds a value in the Korean society that breaks down all traditional buildings. I wanted to preserve this area and from 2013 on tried to activate the town, but it led the gentrification that brought higher rent, creating the irony of demolishing the project. I published this book in the hope of documenting this place that I live in with the fear that it might disappear any day.
