관수도 IV / Gazing Water IV

EM갤러리는 Art Busan 2026 특별전 CONNECT 섹션에서 무나씨 작가의 를 선보이고 있습니다. 천장에서 아래로 펼쳐지는 족자 형식의 〈관 / Gazing〉, 바닥에 놓인 병풍 형식의 〈수 / Water〉는 물리적으로 연결되지 않은 채 서로를 마주하며 하나의 작품으로 구성됩니다.

무나씨 작가는 감정을 이해하려는 일을 수면 위에 비친 자신의 모습을 바라보는 것에 비유합니다. 있는 그대로의 자신을 응시하는 일은 쉬워 보이지만, 실은 불가능에 가까운 일이기도 합니다. 욕망과 결점까지 자신의 일부로 받아들이는 과정 속에서, 화면에는 거대한 존재의 형상이 등장합니다. 이 존재는 모든 결점을 내려다볼 수 있을 만큼 오래되고 자애로운 내면의 스승이자 스스로를 이해하고 끌어안는 또다른 자아이기도 합니다.

EM Gallery presents Gazing Water IV by Moonassi in the CONNECT section of Art Busan 2026. The hanging scroll-format work Gazing, which unfolds downward from the ceiling, and the folding screen-format work Water, placed on the floor, face one another without being physically connected, together forming a single installation.

Moonassi compares the act of understanding emotions to gazing at one’s reflection on the surface of water. Looking directly at oneself as one truly is may seem simple, yet in reality it is nearly impossible. In the process of accepting even one’s desires and flaws as parts of oneself, the image of a vast being emerges within the work. This being is an ancient and compassionate inner teacher, capable of looking down upon every imperfection, while also representing another self that seeks to understand and embrace itself completely.

무나씨 작가는 감지되지만 뚜렷하게 포착되지 않는 의식의 영역을 탐구합니다. 사람과 사람 사이, 의식의 상호작용을 늘 서로 엉켜있고 침범하고 뒤섞이는 상태로 보며 이를 세밀한 붓선들로 화면에 담아냅니다.

EM Gallery is pleased to present a solo booth by Moonassi at Art Busan 2026.

Moonassi explores subtle realms of consciousness that are sensed yet never fully defined. Through layered gestures and fluid forms, the artist visualizes the intertwined interactions between individuals, moments where awareness overlaps, merges, and quietly transforms.

“My brushstrokes represent the subtle field of consciousness, the flow of particles of awareness. As these flows gather, they become visible to your eyes as a person called ‘me.’ I imagine myself as such a being. Envisioning a single consciousness that encompasses sensation, emotion, thought, and memory, I sought to portray its many different forms.” —Moonassi

양현모 작가의 진동 시리즈에서는 붓을 두드려 색을 쌓아 올리는 방식으로 화면이 구성됩니다. 그 과정에서 뚜렷한 윤곽은 흐려지고 미세하게 흔들리며 겹쳐지는 뿌연 층이 생겨납니다. 멀리서 보면 하나의 색면처럼 보이지만 가까이 다가가면 무수히 반복된 두드림의 흔적이 드러납니다. 붓 자국들이 미묘하게 어긋나며 화면에 잔잔한 떨림을 만드는데, 성긴 털실의 짜임을 연상시키기도 하는 이 질감은 형태의 경계를 지우고 형상을 공중에 떠 있는 듯 보이게 합니다.

Yang Hyunmo constructs his surfaces by tapping the brush to build up layers of color. In this process, clear outlines dissolve, giving way to hazy, overlapping layers that subtly waver. From a distance, the work appears as a unified field of color, but up close, the countless repeated taps become visible. The brush marks slip slightly out of alignment, creating a gentle vibration across the surface. This texture, reminiscent of a loosely woven thread, erases the boundaries of form and makes the image appear as if it is floating in space.

양현모의 회화는 색면과 선의 미세한 떨림, 흐릿함과 선명함의 교차를 통해 ‘본다는 경험’ 자체에 머뭅니다. 의미를 덜어낸 그의 작업은 해석 중심의 시각 경험에서 벗어나, 한때 익숙했지만 이제는 희미해진 감각을 다시 마주하도록 이끕니다. 그 과정에서 순수하게 눈으로 느끼는 순간이 되살아나기를 기대합니다.

Yang Hyunmo explores the act of seeing through subtle vibrations of color and line, where clarity and blur intersect. By stripping away overt meaning, his work shifts attention from interpretation to perception itself, inviting viewers to reconnect with sensations that once felt familiar but have since faded. Through this process, the immediacy of visual experience quietly returns.
