This is Wangroy Bukam, a Konyak man from Nagaland in India. Ordinarily, I would give you some words from my conversation with him, but today, I simply encourage you to read more about the issue and sign the petition below and share it with those you know.

As it stands, the army of India is able to, under the banner of the Armed Forces Special Protection Act, use whatever force it deems necessary for whatever reason it sees fit in certain areas of India. That includes, as we saw on December 4th, the murder of innocent citizens.

Right now, 94,000 signatures have been gathered. With a population of almost 8 billion, 94,000 have managed to sign a free petition to the Government of India saying they disagree with the powers given to its military to use excessive force against its own citizens. Please share this around as you might do with a cat meme. Help the people of Nagaland and North East India repeal this law and give them the same rights the rest of the country enjoys.

It saddens and angers me to learn that the Indian Army are able to murder their own citizens with impunity.

On December 4th, 14 Konyak miners were gunned down by security forces after being mistaken for militants. The army has expressed "deep regret" for the killings, but will not be held responsible due to a law that allows this use of force against its own citizens. More news can be found from all major outlets by searching "Nagaland Indian Army" on your preferred news source.

To my brothers and sisters in Nagaland, you have my condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, as our our voices.

To the Indian Army, do your duty, protect the people of your nation. Repeal the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, punish those responsible, and make sure it does not happen again.

To the people of the world, raise your voices and end all governments' abilities to murder their own citizens. Stand up for human rights. It may seem far away to many of us, but these atrocities will continue to befall our fellow human beings if we don't stand up for what is right. Let the government of India know your distaste for their actions.

Lest. We. Forget.

Last year, I journeyed to the Naga Self Administered Zone in Myanmar for my ongoing Tattoos of Asia project. My good friend Wesley Chang Photography joined me on this trip and worked his magic to produce this short documentary of our time there. I hope you enjoy this look into what it's like to head out into the mountains for this project.

This week's video is something a little different. Just over a year ago, I flew down to Myanmar to continue working on my long-term Tattoos of Asia project. ...

India was on my mind again today. Last time I visited, I spent a month in Arunachal Pradesh and then came back down to the plains to spend a month traveling the triangle with my wife... this is one of my favourite frames from that time.

Today, I'd like to share a project my good friend Tomasz Trzebiatowski, the founder of Frames Magazine (https://readframes.com/) is working on. In this "content" fueled world, Tomasz would like us to slow down a little and see only two images a day and learn from the photographers that created them. He's developing an app now to make this happen and, while the app itself will be free to all, he'd love our support in bringing it to life.
