덩 쓰칭(Deng Shiqing) 작가가 아트사이드 갤러리의 전속 작가로 함께 합니다. 그 첫걸음으로 덩 쓰칭 작가는 오는 9월 개최되는 Kiaf에 참여할 예정입니다.

덩 쓰칭 작가(b.1992)는 가상적으로 조작된 현실과 물질적 세계 사이의 관계를 탐구하며, 개인적 경험과 동시대 사건을 기묘한 서사로 풀어냅니다. 현대 플랫폼이 인간의 욕망과 주의력을 데이터화하고 이미지를 소비하게 만드는 방식을 시각화하여, 오늘날 디지털 환경 속 ‘진정성’의 의미를 묻습니다.

Deng Shiqing (b. 1992) has joined Artside Gallery as an exclusive artist. As her first step with the gallery, she will be participating in the upcoming Kiaf this September.

Deng Shiqing explores the relationship between virtually manipulated reality and the disconnectable physical world, weaving personal experiences and contemporary events into strange and mysterious narratives. By visualizing how modern image consumption—specifically how digital platforms standardize human desire and attention into data—she raises fundamental questions about what ”authenticity“ means in today‘s image environment.

곽지수는 조각과 드로잉, 설치를 아우르며 언어로 다 담아낼 수 없는 슬픔과 미세한 정서의 흔적, 그리고 인간관계 속에 생성되는 감정의 압력과 균열에 지속적으로 주목해 왔습니다. 얇고 연약한 철사와 종이, 천과 같은 가벼운 재료들은 작가의 손을 거쳐 서로 기대어 있는 불안정한 구조로 구축되며, 비언어적 경험이 지닌 물리적 감각을 섬세한 조각적 언어로 탐구합니다.

ARTSIDE Gallery is pleased to announce the representation of Kwak Jisu. As the first step of this journey, Kwak Jisu has been selected for the special exhibition 𝘏𝘜𝘔𝘈𝘓 at Kiaf SEOUL 2026 this September, where she will present her distinct artistic world through a solo booth. The special exhibition 𝘏𝘜𝘔𝘈𝘓 sheds light on human instinct, physical senses, and vitality in the age of technology.

Encompassing sculpture, drawing, and installation, Kwak continuously pays attention to the subtle traces of emotion and unspeakable grief, as well as the emotional pressures and cracks formed within human relationships. Light, delicate materials—such as wire, paper, and fabric—are constructed through her hands into unstable structures that lean on one another, exploring the physical senses of non-verbal experience through a delicate sculptural language.

아트사이드 갤러리에서 진행 중인 권소진 개인전 《제비가 낮게 날면》이 아트인컬처 8월호에 소개되었습니다.

원본은 어디에도 없다. 세계는 처음부터 복제의 복제였다. 권소진은 원본이 사라진 모사, 이른바 ‘시뮬라크르(simulacre)’로풍경을 채운다. 전사(轉寫), 스탬프, 에어브러시 등으로 빚은 진짜보다 더 진짜 같은 가짜로, ‘존재한다’는 것의 실체를 묻는다.

원본이 사라진 세계에서는 중심과 주변, 주역과 배경을 가르던 눈금도 함께 지워진다. 무엇이 더 진짜인지를 가르는 물음이 힘을 잃는 자리에서, 어떤 것이 더 중요하냐는 질문도 나란히 무너진다. 남는 것은 저마다의 고도로 날고 있는 존재뿐이다.

”‘진짜’나 ‘진정한’이라는 수식어가 주는 커다란 믿음이 있습니다. 하지만 그것을 깊이 파고들다 보면 설명하기 모호해진다는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 진짜 사랑, 진정한 삶 같은 것들은 내가 달려가고 싶은 어떤 방향이라는 것만 체감할 뿐인데. 저는 때로는 진짜를 가장한 가짜, 거짓말 같은 것들을 발견할 때 느끼는 배반감과 일종의 통쾌한 쾌감을 통해, 도리어 무엇이 진짜인지 다시 생각해 보곤 합니다.“

“There is a strong sense of trust attached to modifiers like ‘real’ or ‘genuine.’ However, as you dig deeper into them, you come to realize how ambiguous they are to explain. Concepts like ‘real love’ or a ‘genuine life’ only make me realize that they represent a direction I want to run toward. Yet, when I encounter fake things or lies disguised as the real thing, the resulting feeling of betrayal—along with a subtle sense of gratification—leads me to reflect on what is truly real.”

연작에서 작가는 어린시절 오래된 집의 겹겹이 쌓인 벽지를 통해 보았던 시간의 흔적을 실제 공간까지 확장한다. 캔버스 뒷면의 틀과 전시장이라는 물리적 환경, 그리고 과거의 기억들은 서로를 관통하며 겹겹이 쌓이다 이내 어지럽게 흩어진다. 관람객의 눈은 캔버스 너머의 공간을 마주하며 사물의 파편을 쫓고, 머릿속에서 이들을 하나의 연극적 무대로 완결 짓지만, 이내 환영이 깨어지는 과정을 반복하게 된다. 이 불일치는 사물과 그림의 속성을 상대적으로 변경하며, 관람객으로 하여금 ‘내가 지금 보고 있는 것이 실재인가, 아니면 당신이 투영한 무대인가’라는 질문을 던지게 한다.

In the Cloud Wallpaper and Drawing series, the artist extends the traces of time she once saw through the layers of wallpaper in her old childhood home into the actual space. The frame behind the canvas, the physical environment of the gallery, and memories of the past pe*****te and overlap with one another, only to scatter in disarray. The viewer’s eye chases fragments of objects while facing the space beyond the canvas, completing them into a theatrical stage within the mind, only to repeatedly have that illusion shattered. This dissonance alters the properties of the objects and the paintings relatively, prompting the viewer to ask: ”Is what I am seeing real, or is it a stage projected by you?“

권소진의 작품은 ‘미적 거리(Aesthetic Distance)’를 확보한다. 우리는 일상의 맥락에서 대상을 분리하고, 비로소 그것을 감상할 수 있는 ‘무대’ 위에 올려놓을 때 그 대상을 ‘그림 같다’고 감각한다. 작가는 현실이 너무나 현실적일 때가 아니라, 도리어 현실 같지 않을 때 비로소 풍경이 시작된다는 것을 알고 있다. 그의 시선은 믿음과 의심, 부재와 대체, 이미지와 사물이 서로를 비추는 찰나의 지점을 정교하게 포착한다.

Kwon’s work secures an ”aesthetic distance.“ We perceive an object as ”picture-like“ only when we detach it from its daily context and place it upon a ”stage“ where it can be appreciated. The artist understands that a landscape begins not when reality is at its most realistic, but when it feels unreal. Her gaze precisely captures the fleeting moments where belief and doubt, absence and substitution, and image and object reflect one another.
