쉬머링’의 1/3 사이즈 소규모 해외 첫 여행을 마치고 돌아왔습니다. 파리 시립 극장의 20년 전통을 자랑하는 ‘당스 엘라지(Danse Élargie)’에 다녀왔어요. 사실 컴페티션을 통한 어워드 형식이 포함된 시스템에 대해 선입견과 우려를 품었던 것도 사실입니다.
하지만 20년 가까운 역사를 거쳐오며 당스 엘라지가 자연스럽게 만들어 낸 ‘공연 예술을 위한 축제’라는 자부심을 느낄 수 있었고, 파이널 참가 그 자체만으로도 유럽에 작품을 알리고 신뢰를 획득할 수 있을 거라는 제 믿음이 맞았음을 확인했습니다.
극장이 자신들이 올린 공연 작품의 역사를 소중한 자산으로 삼고, 아티스트를 보석처럼 대우하는 힘을 절실히 느끼고 왔습니다. 어쩔 수 없이 발생할 수밖에 없는 크고 작은 사고들을 유연하게 받아들이고, 모든 것을 예술가의 작품과 작업을 최우선으로 두고 과감하게 결정을 내려 진행하는 극장의 태도에 큰 감동을 받았습니다.
첫 오리엔테이션부터 마지막 크래시 테스트(Crash Test)까지, 오직 예술가와 공연, 그리고 관객 케어가 핵심인 한바탕의 축제를 경험하니 힘이 납니다. 올해부터 본격적으로 시작될 유럽 투어를 앞두고, 우당탕탕 사건 사고를 겪으며 많이 웃고 울고 배우고 돌아왔습니다.
너무 즐거웠고, 무엇보다 막내새와 언니새들이 행복해해서 ‘우당탕탕’ 이양희와 양지울은 그저 기쁩니다. 그럼 이 기운을 바탕으로 10월 밀란도 고고!!!

We are back from the 9th Danse Élargie at the Théâtre de la Ville. To be honest, I did have some initial prejudice and concerns about a system that involves competition and awards. However, my instincts were right: witnessing the pride that Danse Élargie has naturally built over its nearly 20-year history as a true ’festival for the performing arts‘ convinced me. Just making it to the finals is enough to gain exposure and build solid credibility in the European scene.
I deeply felt the power of a theater that treasures the history of its staged works as invaluable assets and treats artists like precious gems. I was profoundly moved by the theater’s attitude—how flexibly they embraced the inevitable hiccups, big and small, and how boldly they made decisions, always prioritizing the artist‘s work and vision above all else.
From the very first orientation to the final Crash Test, experiencing a festival whose beating heart is solely focused on caring for the artists, the performance, and the audience. Taking this amazing momentum, next stop: Milan in October, let’s go!!!
