Kampucheers Cheurng Maek | A Retro Khmer Typeface

You’ve probably seen this typeface before, being used across the Kampucheers page back then, but maybe never knew much about it or who was behind it.

This was a type design collaboration with Kampucheers, exploring Khmer letterforms through a bold, nostalgic retro direction. It’s an inspired from a Sinn Sisamouth’s song “ជើងមេឃពណ៍ស្វាយ”.

I really admire the work Kampucheers has been doing to keep Khmer culture, identity, and visual heritage alive. It’s meaningful to contribute, even in a small way, to that ongoing effort.

I had the pleasure of designing this typeface and shaping its visual character from the ground up. Really proud to finally share a little bit of the story behind it.
