My game projects:
Health State:
A virtual world to change how we approach health, incorporating multiple innovations, including a very innovative health simulator.
Health State will be a prequel to Farstate, an innovative game design inspired by Outlast, which is a first-person psychological survival horror.
The main visionary was an autistic kid. The Health State game has a ton of big innovations going into it far beyond that of Farstate. The budget required to build it is huge, and so there is no wonder that it has not been developed.
I have looked at building the simulator component in the past, but I haven't had enough of the right components to move forward with it yet.
Being able to visualize the impact of our choices through simulation as well as experiment with possibilities is core to the simulator component.
* Cross over between the game to the real world.
* Integration with an app that allows you to easily share your health data with health professionals. And many more innovative concepts.
* Visualization of mental obstacles by turning them into characters.
* The approach to gameplay as well as how emotions are handled make it stand out as an incredibly powerful and revolutionary game in its own right, both stemming from my work on Farstate. I learned a lot working with the visionary for Farstate. Helping him bring Farstate to life is one of my longer-term goals.
P.E.A.R.L.S:
A game to protect the vulnerable against human trafficking and sexual abuse. I coached an author who wanted to have a game created based on her work to protect kids from predators.
I suggested she use her existing skills and use that as a rapid prototype to be able to test her ideas. It resulted in an activity book.
Many of the practical activities currently use paper dolls. This is high on my priority list as something close to my heart. I have known too many people harmed by sexual abuse. It may also be able to be integrated into a virtual world like Health State.
CoNector
The CoNector App will be a platform that connects multiple games. It was originally intended to focus on the vulnerable, who struggle to move from education into work. This includes people with mental health issues, disabilities, and poor upbringings. I could talk about this one alone for quite a while. In the past, I have spent time researching virtual worlds and the integration of learning and work.
When working on a previous project, I envisaged being able to move between a virtual world, an app, and offline learning pretty seamlessly. Unfortunately, I was working with someone who just wanted to focus on game-based assessment rather than the power of also integrating this between different platforms. I have designed several innovations relating to virtual worlds and learning that help to overcome the limitations I came across and enhance the learning experience.
Quiz Buff
This is the current name of the game that my Mentor is working on, which incorporates mechanics that will change the way we learn work, and play. It will be the first of many that use the same basic system. They will connect via the CoNector API, allowing for the use of the stats between any of the other games or apps that have been 'connected'.
Synergy High
I did create an innovative collaborative classroom game that got the students working together and tested it. However, I have not had time to develop it further. For it to be usable by other teachers, it would still require quite a lot of work.
Collaborative mechanics is something I have long been interested in. This is just a manifestation of one of the concepts I have thought about. Part of the power is in changing how students think about competition and so moving the needle toward synergy.
Synergy High is an innovative way of reinforcing learning that is very fun and engaging. It will be able to connect to the CoNector API and be accessible from the CoNector App. This will take it from cool to incredible. However, I really will need a lot of help to add the content and develop it further.
Quiz Buff is a better option for now for showing off the concept and for teachers and students to be able to use it sooner without the same need for adding too much educational content. Any of the learning content from Quiz Buff should be able to be reused in Synergy High. This will allow two different experiences for the same learning content.
Of course, there are many, many more, as I have been coming up with solutions in the game space for a very long time.
