Part 1 of unshared Art Iβve done and proud of.
For this art competition, we were challenged to merge our own culture with the symbolism of the Chinese Dragon in celebration of the Chinese New Year⦠𧧠the Year of the Dragon. I knew immediately that I wanted to honor the spirit, movement, and vibrancy of the Caribbean, so I created my own interpretation: a Caribbean Sea Dragon.
This piece combines elements of traditional Chinese dragon imagery with the colors, and textures of the Caribbean carnival. The feathers and jewel-like accents reflect the brilliance of carnival costumes, while the fiery tones represent our passion, creativity, and cultural pride. I used swirling waves to represent the oceans around the islands and to echo the rhythms, beats, and fluid motion that define us, always alive, always moving, always telling a story.
Iβm grateful that this artwork won a prize in the competition and was later displayed and exhibited in China, allowing this CaribbeanβChinese fusion to be shared and celebrated across cultures. ππβ¨
