•BENIN BRONZES at AAA•

Given as gifts in the Kingdom of Benin (modern day N. Nigeria), bronzes were a sign of deep friendship and respect.

Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin, and as the copper oxidizes, the sculptures, over time, gain their famous green colour. This collection is freestanding and a great ornament on any coffee table, office desk, dressing mirror or TV stand.

His work retrospectively examined a past that is being erroded, where every piece of furniture meant something and bore great character. Personalized to the owner's specifications and indicitive of their societal status. A melancholic throwback, becrying the gravity of each piece.

•AFFORDABLE ART SHOW at NAIROBI NATIONAL MUSEUM•

It was an absolute treat to visit the Affordable Art Show that just concluded at the Nairobi National Museum in Nairobi.
•
This was the 20th edition of the exhibition and it featured over 800 pieces from 400 plus artists in a show of diversity of subjects, mediums and executions.
•
AAA continues to be an avenue for up and coming artists to showcase their talent, and the Affordable Art Show has been a poignant venue to meet some of the best young artists in East Africa.
•
Even with representation for more established artists, AAA continues to nurture and grow the next generation of painters, sculptors and mixed media practitioners.

•PATRICK MUKABI•

It is with great sorrow that AAA learns of the passing of a metronome, a remarkable artist, a tutor, a mentor and a true gentleman in Patrick "Panye" Mukabi.
•
Famous for his depictions of full-figured African women within their daily working environments, Patrick captured the essence of how much our matriarchs pour into us by pouring out of themselves, their selfless sacrifices and innate strength. His work hangs in many spaces worldwide.
•
Patrick was a huge cornerstone of the country's conveyor belt of artists, giving lessons to thousands and mentoring many many more. A devastating loss to his family, friends and the art fraternity at large.
•
Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone who mourns the great man. May he rest in peace.

AAA was honoured to host an artist talk by J. Loren, an artist that has recently joined the talent on show at our Diani Beach gallery space, and guests who made the evening truly special.
•
The artist discussed her "Unbroken Spirit" series, that portrays the unrelenting pursuit of goals and the hopes harboured in our hearts. Made of upcycled spirit bottles, the series shows the rebirth of not only the material, but figuratively, among us.
•
