TIBS was founded in October 2003 right in Thika CBD with the objective of supplementing the government’s efforts of providing post - secondary education. This has been through the provision of selected technical, management and Hospitality courses for the youth who miss places in our few public universities. Our mission has its origin from a focus on integrating learning, personal development, and
community engagement. The college started from a humble beginning with just two Lecture rooms and one office which served as the Director’s and Reception offices. Initially only four courses programs were offered and this has grown to 20 Programs offering Certificates, Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas. TIBS College is committed to an interdisciplinary curriculum, small classes, an emphasis on dialogue, learning in and from community, and respect for perspectives born of varied socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. The college seeks to provide a transformative education for students of diverse ages, circumstances, and means who, through a combination of academic abilities, life experiences, and character, are ready to take responsibility for their education. TIBS College challenges students to achieve high levels of written, oral, and artistic communication; critical and reflective thinking; creativity; and social, historical, and scientific awareness. Students share responsibility with their teachers and academic advisors for planning and pursuing their studies and evaluating their work. We help students acquire knowledge and develop skills that will allow them to build meaningful livelihood. We prepare our students to act guided by social consciousness and self-awareness in the local, national, and global communities where they study, work, and live. The courses in a nutshell vary between Business, Hospitality and Technical training and the durations are between one and three years depending on the particular course requirements. In addition to our academic programs, TIBS College has an alliance of nationally prominent centers like KASNEB, ICM (UK), City & Guilds (UK), CSK, ABMA (UK), DIT and affiliated research and outreach units working to fulfill our mission. Our intakes are quarterly a year in the months of January, April, July and October. TIBS is fully registered with the ministry of Higher Education No. MOHIEST/PC/ 1207/09. Our catchment areas cover all counties in the entire country and some students come from as far across the border as Tanzania. The mode of study is full time for students who have time to study continuously, part – time for the working class and correspondence for those who can’t make it to the college premises. Currently we have 700 students and 70% of our regular students reside in Hostels. Because of our consistency in quality training we have gained the confidence of the community a fact mirrored by the many referrals we get at each intake. Our Vision:
To be a world class institution in support of human resource development by offering quality training. Our Motto:
Highway to Future Success. Our Mission:
Determination to serve the society through flexible affordable and quality career training. The mission of TIBS College is to guide students to become skillful and reflective practitioners, lifelong learners, and active citizens engaged in fostering a just, humane society and sustainable, harmonious working environments.
