"Pretending to be asleep now? I never realized you could be an actress like that." The man's eyes were focused on the path he walked, but his words were directed to the woman he carried in his arms. Words to which the woman replied by slowly opening her eyes, staring at his shoulder, and saying nothing.
"Then you must have heard everything they said." He continued, her fist tightly clutched his shirt in response. He looked down to her to find tears welling up in her eyes, and he couldn't help a somber frown.
They reached their destination, a small room in the middle of nowhere with little to no details but a bed in its corner. He let her stand on her own, yet her fingers remained clutching onto his shirt, so he kept his arms wrapped around her.
"I'm sorry, it didn't have to turn out like this, but it did," he muttered, close to her ear.
She remained quiet, before she started sobing against his chest. This stubborn, bitter girl was crying in his arms, this one stubborn girl.
It felt strange, he remembered how one time he thought it would be impossible. The harsh aura she'd been emitting the last few months, with her silent sealed lips, her deep hollow eyes. All that seemed to disappear on his shirt, making him feel as if someone has twisted his heart. If only he had a way of comfort he could give her, but,
"I'm sorry," he repeated, helpless to any other word.
