Kuonyesha | CALLING ALL UGANDAN ARTISTS

Kuonyesha Art Fund exists to support, nurture, and develop art in Uganda and the rest of Africa. The fund is run by “CIVFUND”, an Afro-feminist fund that seeks to provide flexible, accessible and responsive funding for effective civic engagement of civil society in Africa.

Kuonyesha Art Fund 2024 Small Grant Applications are Now Open! The grant award is open to all artists of all ages living and working on the Africa continent; minors may be required to be accompanied & guided by an adult. Female artists and artists who are Persons with Disabilities are especially encouraged to apply. There are no application fees.

Applications from across Africa may be submitted through the online digital process.

Celebrating Shabu Mwangi's honorable mention at this year's Access ART X Prize in the African /Diasporan finalist section. Other finalists for the prize included Edward Prah, Dior Tham, and Anne Mutema with Asmaa Jama emerging the winner.

Alongside a $2000 prize, Shabu will also be part of a yearlong mentorship program.

US-based Ethiopian Julie Mehretu has once again broken the record for the highest sale price of any work by an African-born artist at auction.

Her abstract painting Walkers With the Dawn and Morning fetched $10.7m (£8.6m) at Sotheby's in New York on Wednesday.

The piece features ink and acrylic on canvas and takes its name from a 1920s Langston Hughes poem.
