Two things that became clear when I was in Marsabit:

1. Climate change is real and it affects both people and animals.
Look at Lake Paradise (picture 1)
If all animals in the park decide to drink water from it in a day, it will be completely dry. Good thing there's another source of water (picture 3) so there's no scrambling to quench thirst πŸ™ŒπŸΏ

2. The book Creating Understanding by Dr Donald Smith makes a lot of sense now more than ever. While interacting with communities in Moyale and Saku, my colleague and I from EACHRights collected their views and recommendations on what should be included in the Marsabit Child Protection Policy. We conducted our sessions in Kiswahili and Kiborana; none of us speak Kiborana so our local contact helped us pass/stress a messageπŸ’ͺ🏿

Original name for Lake Paradise is Sokorte Gutho. It was named Paradise by Martin and Osa Johnson in 1921. The water body in the third picture is Sokorte Diko and it's near Marsabit Lodge. Note that both lakes are situated in Marsabit National Park.
