Why Living in an Urban City is a Bad Idea?
We have all heard of the COVID19 Pandemic that has brought fear and tension to the whole world. Well, this virus started from Wuhan, China, and in two months, the rate at which its spreading is alarming. There are desperate measures governments are taking to protect their populations. But are we really safe?
With the rate at which this virus is spreading, I have come to believe that living in a densely populated region is a bad idea. How would you know whether one has COVID19 or not? People unknowingly spread the virus, and the chain continues. In a few weeks’ time, I’m sure we will feel the heat.
1. Food
Food is a critical commodity of human life. In a capital city like Nairobi, thousands of people throng markets to buy daily food commodities, either from the open market or in the Supermarkets. With the Corona virus in the Air, government will be forced to shut down these primary sources of food for the population. How long will our home supplies run? How safe are the little amount of food left in the market? Kisii town has already shut its market leaving traders stranded.
Just as Kipchumba Morkomen has said: “If we don’t work very hard, it will reach a stage where if people of Kibera don’t get any food, the people of Karen and Langata will have to share food with them either by choice or by force.” Tough times ahead!
2. Travel
Thousands of people flock in stages all over the city as they travel from one place to another. Remember, in a country like this, it is unfortunate that safety isn’t a priority among the touts. You may get infected at any time. No one knows! A taxi driver has recently developed signs and symptoms of this deadly virus. So where is safe?
Nowhere is safe. I understand that, but at the expense of costs and the risk factor of contracting the virus, I better run to my small village. There we can find Sukuma wiki at the farms, we have less or zero interactions with people. I better spend my mornings herding my cows rather than being at the city looking over my shoulder of what would happen next.
Goodbye people. Keep safe. Observe proper hygiene standards.
