WE HAVE SOME AMAZING NEWS! Team SONGA (both Dutch & Kenyan dancers) will perform on the 24th of March at the ‘In The Picture Festival’ in Bijlmer Parkheater, Amsterdam. Above that, it will also be the first time the documentary of our vision and our journey in Kenya will be presented. Today we had our final rehearsal. Tomorrow we will present our piece downtown on the streets of Nairobi. Irina Dascha Jaskulsky and Christine Karani has choreographed something magical. Also, we would like to mention how happy, and thankful we were to have the youngsters of St. Benedict’s during our last rehearsal today. Asante Sana boys❤

Dance Project Kenya also got the chance to teach several dance classes at Mathare Children’s Fund panairobi & St. Mauris. Mathare Children’s Fund helps teenage moms with an education and work & helps special kids in their educational program. St. Mauris helps boys from the street by preparing them to go back to school through a special program. We feel so honored to teach here. ❤️🙏

We want to thank everybody who came to our benefit evening! What an amazing evening! We felt so much love, warmth and support. Anddddd... We raised €1.360!!! That makes €2.765 in total! Our crowdfunding compaign is still open til midnight! Who takes the next step and makes it hit €3000? Our dream to go to Kenya to work with talented Kenyan dancers is becoming closer and closer. SONGA

What moves you?

We are SONGA: two choreographers, five dancers and one filmmaker from Amsterdam. Our dream is about to become reality. In September 2018 we will realize an exchange program SONGA with 10 Kenyan dancers from Artzone Nairobi. SONGA means to move in Swahili. Within four weeks we will create a dance piece which will be performed in the public spaces of Nairobi. Our main focus lies in the connection of various backgrounds through dance. This project will enable two different worlds to share knowledge and education.

Our work is authentic and transcultural. As artists, we are driven by the inner rhythm and cultural dynamics of our generation. Our goal is to work across borders by creating an emotionally engaging experience for artists and audience in the Netherlands and Kenya.

In order to share the process of encounter, research and presentation we will feature our experience in a documentary movie. So you can see, feel and experience both cultures as one.
