Come to Kenya National Theatre this weekend for a stage show that tells the tale of our ancestors' love/hate relationship with twins that still continues to date.

In 1922, the healthy boy Mukhwana was born in the village of Mukhweya in Western Kenya. A few minutes later, his twin brother Mulongo followed. But they weren’t destined to live for long. After a few hours, Mukhwana and their mother had been killed to avoid the wrath of the curse of first-born twins and only Mulongo survived.

A tale based on true events, the story of Mulongo takes us on a journey of the dark fairy tales of Kenya’s cultural beliefs and colonial past.

Written and directed by Job Masika

After being appointed by the Queen of England to mediate between two warring Chiefdoms; the Bukusu and the Wanga, dr Augustus invites his son Jason to a village in East Africa. For the sake of peace, the Bukusu Chief, Mukoro, agrees to offer his only daughter, Naswa, to the erratic young Chief of Wanga, Mumia.

However, Naswa’s childbirth brings surprises that throw the peace treaty in turmoil. Both Dr Augustus and Naswa are murdered as Jason escapes. Chief Mumia is determined to kill the infants and obliterate the entire lineage of Chief Mukoro.

Hadithi Zetu is a live event series that tells tales about the rich culture and heritage of our ethnic groups. Our past has deep and unique stories to be brought to light, with our ethnicities as the source of inspiration, knowledge, and identity: United by heritage.
