Sometimes, even the boldest dreams must pause — not because they failed, but because they need time to breathe. Today, I share a deeply personal reflection on my journey with Qumbi, Africa’s own social media and entertainment ecosystem — a dream that may be resting, but not gone.

Letting Go, But Not Losing the Dream — A Reflection on Qumbi

Today is a difficult day for me. As I watch play.qumbi.com — a platform I poured my heart, time, and resources into — approach expiry, I feel the quiet weight of letting go.

Qumbi was never just a website. It was a dream born out of Africa’s creative soul — a vision to build our own social media and entertainment ecosystem that empowered artists, celebrated culture, and connected communities across the world.

When I founded Qumbi through Afrendez Ltd, I saw a future where African creators would finally have a homegrown platform — one that reflected our stories, our rhythms, and our dignity. Together with a dedicated team, we designed, prototyped, and took it live. The response and belief from those who saw its potential will forever remain a source of pride and gratitude.

But dreams — especially those that seek to shift paradigms — demand immense resources. The economic realities of sustaining hosting, development, and operations have become too heavy to bear alone. And so, with a heavy heart, I must pause this chapter.

Yet, I do not see this as an end. Qumbi remains alive in spirit — in every artist who dares to create, in every African story waiting to be told, and in every believer in our digital independence.

If you share this vision — if you see what Qumbi could still become — I welcome conversations on partnership, investment, or collaboration to help bring it back stronger, smarter, and even more rooted in Africa’s voice.

For now, I pause to honour the journey, the people who walked with me, and the lessons learned along the way.

Qumbi may rest for now, but the dream of Africa’s digital renaissance continues.
