When I created Elim the Poet, I started with zero followers, just a quiet dream and a heart full of words.

Today, there are over 1,000 of you here! A thousand hearts, a thousand stories, a thousand reasons to keep writing.

That Saturday felt like a gentle turning of a page, one of those chapters where conversation, warmth, and purpose meet in the same room.

Earlier this month, I was invited to dinner with Kathy, one of GLOW Foundation Global donors and advisors, and the evening unfolded with the kind of depth that lingers long after the plates are cleared.

Kathy spoke about empowered philanthropy with a conviction that moved me, a belief that those who carry the stories, who have lived the fractures and the beauty of their communities, are the ones meant to shape the solutions. Resources, she reminded us, should strengthen voices, not silence them. Her words felt like truth carved from experience.

I also saw resilience in her, not as a slogan, but as a lived journey. The courage to shift careers, to reinvent, to honor the worth of her skills… listening to her was like attending a masterclass in self-belief.

She spoke of Lowry with pure admiration, the heart and light she pours into GLOW girls! And then there were the girls themselves, each one carrying a spark, a story, a becoming. Sitting with them felt like sitting among mirrors reflecting possibility.

Doreen let that project rise; the world is waiting.
Joan walk your way to graduation with grace; the rest of us are clapping softly behind you.
Jenny may creativity continue to flow through you with ease.
Jeni, Joyce and Rahab thank you for opening doors that feel like sunlit rooms.

The night ended with a moment of tenderness, sharing why I wrote Becoming Light. It is for every woman who refuses to dim, for every girl who rises again and again, for every soul learning to glow through the cracks. I cannot wait to hear your reflections and reviews once you’ve read the book.

This dinner was a reminder that we become light in community, in courage, and in the quiet bravery of showing up.
