How Are People Tracked?
Telecommunication companies like Safaricom PLC have repeatedly stated that they do not share customer data with third parties, including the DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations), without following legal channels. So how then do people still get tracked?
Authorities may obtain court orders to compel telcos to hand over call data, location history, and communications.
In some cases, covert surveillance tools, including IMSI catchers or spyware, are reportedly used to monitor individuals.
Leaks, internal corruption, or unauthorized access within service providers or law enforcement agencies may also be a factor.
We urge and other service providers to be transparent and proactive in informing the public about when and why data is shared, and under what authority.
Our Call as Kisumu Artists
As artists, activists, and community storytellers, Dala Infinite Empire is deeply concerned about the climate of fear surrounding freedom of speech and expression. We call for:
1. Greater transparency and accountability in how citizen data is accessed and used by law enforcement agencies.
2. Immediate investigations into the unlawful tracing and abduction of youth across Kenya.
3. Public education campaigns to raise awareness about digital rights and the Data Protection Act.
4. Protection of artists, activists, and outspoken youth, so that speaking truth to power doesnβt become a death sentence.
Final Word
We cannot remain silent as our friends, our fans, and fellow youth vanish without answers. We demand a Kenya where digital footprints are protected, where expression is not a crime, and where justice is not optional.
Let it be known: Kisumu is watching. Kenya is awake. And the youth will not be silenced.
