Until my late twenties, I don’t think I ever had a real dream. I majored in architecture and loved learning languages, but deep down I couldn’t confidently say ‘Yes, this is my true calling.’ During those years I spent a long time caring for sick family members. Looking back, perhaps I was also buying time to truly understand myself.
It was while taking care of my mother that I naturally began to draw. Now, more than ten years have flown by, and I can’t help but smile at how I obsessively think about art projects day and night.
The Italy Series began in 2019 following my solo exhibition at the Civic Museum of Salerno in southern Italy. Initially I only intended to draw Salerno. But seeing a whole city, the emotions I felt unfold onto a single sheet of paper was profoundly exhilarating which left me with a huge desire to capture more of the cities of Italy.
It has been a long yet fleeting journey. But I want to commend myself for dedicating the past decade entirely to the art I truly wished to pursue.
Spanning over eight months, the B1-sized art prints of ‘Milano,’ ‘Venezia,’ and ‘Roma’ were brought to life in collaboration with a Japanese printing house that captured the finest details through master-level printing skills. Through these prints, I wish that the deep excitement and love I felt will gently touch the hearts of many.
