As we wrap up 2025, we reflect on a great year for Convoi Exceptionnel. From the premiere of “Detached from Others” at Dansehallerne to welcoming Sofie Mønster as our new producer. Our research and development journeys to Indonesia, the Faroe Islands, and Denmark for the “Island Echoes - body land and sea” project have inspired us deeply. Thank you to our talented artists, dedicated team, and wonderful audience for being part of our journey. Wishing you all good luck with 2026.

The artistic team is now preparing for the next phase of Island Echoes - body, land and sea, which will take place in Makassar, Indonesia in 2026. Here from The Nordic Theatre Laboratorium in Holstebro, Denmark.

This interdisciplinary endeavour continues to foster connections among island communities while exploring the complexities of identity through movements, space and traditional textile patterns. We extend our sincere gratitude to all who have supported us throughout this journey.

We are embarking on a new journey. Six artists from Indonesia, Denmark, and the Faroe Islands have spent an inspiring week on the Faroe Islands researching Island Echoes — a performance project, consisting of three pieces produced and presented in the island nations Indonesia, Denmark, and the Faroe Islands.

Island Echoes is an interdisciplinary project connecting island communities across the Faroe Islands, Denmark, and Indonesia. It explores islandness, ocean, national identity, and how post-imperialist history shapes our bodies and self-understanding through a dialogue across history, tradition, and geography.

The project unites choreography, music, scenography, and dialogue in three unique performances, drawing inspiration from Faroese knitting patterns, Danish embroidery, and Indonesian batik and sarong traditions.

Detached from Others is a choreography of loneliness performed by Kenzo Kusuda. Accompanied by the sound of an organ, Jon R. Skulberg and the iconic dancer Kenzo Kusuda explore the solitary body. Through Kusuda's unique sensitivity, we catch a glimpse of the ambivalence of loneliness somewhere between self-imposed isolation and the experience of being unwillingly alone.

The organ music, composed by Lil Lacy, demonstrates her talent for crafting immersive and sensual soundscapes. In Detached from Others, she takes the organ as her point of departure - an instrument inherently solitary, confined to a single space and its reverberations. It possesses a distinct architectural and sonic presence. While an organ often plays alone, in Detached from Others it encounters itself through multiple recorded layers, intricately mixed within a quadraphonic sound system.

Detached from Others explores the universal experience of loneliness, highlighting its dual nature as both a fundamental human condition and a critical societal issue. While chosen solitude can offer a sense of peace and introspection, involuntary loneliness remains one of today's most pressing public health challenges, with more than one in ten people feeling isolated and disconnected.
