ラグのデザインを考えることは、実はとても難しい。
特にモロッコには多種多様なラグが存在し、素材、織り方、デザイン、厚み、毛足の長さまで、それぞれに異なる特徴があります。
同じ産地であっても、織り手の得意不得意や癖によって、仕上がりは大きく変わります。
そのためMAROCでは、長年の付き合いの中で培ってきた、それぞれの工房の特色を活かしながら制作しています。
Mrirtはこの工房、ベニワレンはこの工房。
それぞれの得意とする表現を理解し、デザインに合わせて依頼先を選んでいます。
2027年のオリジナルMrirtでは、凹凸が生み出す立体感に重点を置きました。
モロッコにはMrirtを織る工房が数多くありますが、今回お願いしたのは、凹凸の表現を得意とし、草木染めならではの優しい色味をしっかりと引き出せる工房。
細かな調整を重ねながら、少しずつかたちにしてきました。
写真だけでは伝えきれない、立体感や肌触り、そして色の奥行き。
展示会にも持っていく予定ですので、ぜひ実際に触れて、ご覧いただけたら嬉しいです。

Designing a rug is, in fact, a complex process.
Morocco is home to an extraordinary variety of rugs, each differing in materials, weaving techniques, design, thickness, and pile length.
Even within the same region, the final result can vary greatly depending on each weaver’s individual skills, preferences, and techniques.
At MAROC, we work with different workshops, drawing on the characteristics we have come to understand through years of collaboration. One workshop for Mrirt, another for Beni Ouarain. Each is selected according to its strengths and the expression we wish to achieve.
For our 2027 original Mrirt collection, we focused on the depth and dimension created through texture.
There are many workshops in Morocco that weave Mrirt rugs, but for this collection, we chose a workshop particularly skilled in creating raised textures while bringing out the soft, gentle tones characteristic of plant-based dyes.
Through careful adjustments and close collaboration, we have gradually brought our designs to life.
The dimensional texture, the feel under your hands, and the depth of colour are qualities that photographs alone cannot fully convey.
Our rugs will also be travelling to exhibitions, and we would be delighted if you could experience their texture, softness, and colours in person.
