拝啓 Escapists

I'm writing to you from another escapade in Japan.
Not much for leisure though, but to share Escapist Motif books at a stationary market. It's a hectic and short trip but it is sweater- weather perfect even though sakura flowers have completed their blooming journey this spring.

I'm crafting some of your custom orders while searching for a favourite spot to share with you. There is a pancake shop that sits beside a collective of cafes offering different dishes called
Rizlabo kitchen. I wanted to try gluten free pancakes (don't knock it till you've tried it, amirite?) and it tasted lovely but I think I prefer pancakes light and fluffy ☁️ If you do too. I highly recommend Micasadeco & Cafe!

After getting a matcha fix. I took a walk and spotted an oji-san relishing in his retirement with every brush stroke to create a homage to the season and his hometown I manifest this life for you and I in time to come.

This print was inspired from my first visit to Japan, and the first time I experienced cherry blossoms—sakura—in full bloom. (See photo 4)

I remember sitting along a waterway in Kichijoji, Tokyo, with sakura trees lined on each side that stretched endlessly. People were gathered all around, some chatting, others laughing, and a few gazed up, lost in thought.

Spotlights shone from the bottom of every tree; it seemed as if the flowers glowed gold.

Whenever a gust of winter wind blew, the petals fell in a slow, graceful dance. Most ended their impromptu choreography on the water, who takes the lead as petals follow the ebb and flow to the open sea.

Pre-orders now open for this motif on the website 🫶

Photo dump 01 // Mokuhanga workshop with Kono Sensei

We started the first day talking about the history of Mokuhanga (2 hours, your girl was struggling to keep up with elementary level japanese).

The craft was introduced when buddhist monks travelled from china to japan; they shared mokuhanga printed images of buddha to new believers as it was expensive for most to afford a proper statue.

It became a popular printed art form in the Edo period, and Ukiyo-e (floating world picture) was produced for the masses. Gradually, its artistic value shifted into expensive collectable art commissioned by weathly individuals.

I'm curious to learn the difference of woodblock printing between China and Japan... maybe another trip next year? 🤭

Hanji (한지) : traditional korean handmade paper, made from the inner bark of the mulberry tree

I had the lovely opportunity to see Gyeongbokgung Palace at night during spring last year (photo 4)

It was drizzling and cold af (korea's cold winds are a different breed 🥶) but it made a romantic backdrop for photos

10/10 recommended if you want to live out your korean drama dreams (plus you wear a hanbok, entrance is free!)

Introducing scented motif 2 (green cover),
Inspired from cycling around Reykjavík Iceland in the summer of 2017 (photo 5) 🚴💨

The motif is a cloud ☁️ floating above a field of flowers,
The back cover fabric is a gradient of blue-green clouds

I can still smell the fresh mountain flowers and feel the breeze, sigh 😌

New scented series debut at .thesomersetshowcase this saturday and sunday 11-12 May located at Taste Orchard (where the old OG Orchard was)
