Closing soon! Installation views from Noritaka Tatehana’s ongoing group exhibition “Kōgei meets Contemporary Art: Works of Nakagawa Mamoru and Tatehana Noritaka” at the MOA Museum of Art.

The highlight of this presentation being “Heel-less Shoes Downtown,” a joint work with Mamoru Nakagawa, whose metal carving technique has been an invaluable contribution to Kaga Zogan, a form of meticulous inlay metalwork. The exhibition also features Tatehana's painted work, “Descending Painting Series (yellow thunder, blue cloud),” which was produced in 2019. Presenting a total of six works by both artists, we invite you to attend the last few days of “Kōgei meets Contemporary Art: Works of Nakagawa Mamoru and Tatehana Noritaka” at the MOA Museum of Art.

We are happy to announce Junko Oki’s upcoming solo exhibition “OKI Junko: The Exposed” at the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama.

September 17, 2022 – January 9, 2023

Venue:
The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama

This is will be Oki’s first solo exhibition at an art museum, featuring her signature method of unique embroidery. Taught by the thread and needle of her own mother, the artist began embroidering without a formal teacher. Through an initial period of embroidering on clothing and bags, she began producing works transcending genres such as painting and sculpture, and has been presenting her work both domestically and internationally in recent years. This exhibition will provide a full view of her creative oeuvre from rare early examples of her artistry, representative embroidered pieces, new works, and an installation.

fumiko imano’s “going nowhere” is opening tomorrow at KOSAKU KANECHIKA.

The setting for the works in this show, the artist’s third solo exhibition at KOSAKU KANECHIKA, is Iceland, a place imano had wanted to return to since visiting the country as a student in London in the late 1990s. She states, “It’s like a travel log of fumiko imano, who found herself a little stuck in 2021 when the COVID-19 virus was raging, and, wanting to be somewhere that felt like the middle of nowhere, she suddenly decided to get up and go.” The twins visit various places, including places encountered twenty-two years ago as well as places seen for the first time, such as glaciers and a hotel full of works by Icelandic artists.

KOSAKU KANECHIKA is pleased to present “going nowhere,” a solo exhibition by fumiko imano, from September 3 to October 8, 2022. This exhibition will be imano’s first solo exhibition consisting exclusively of new works, taken in Iceland.

imano is highly acclaimed for her collaborations in fashion, including handling photography for LOEWE’s publications for eight seasons since 2018 and designing VANS shoes using her own artwork in 2022. Best known are her series of self-portraits taken with a 35mm camera, with the images cut and pasted to create a ‘twins’ motif. Encapsulating an innocently nostalgic and humorous charm that is reminiscent of photographs that might have been taken during a family trip, imano’s self-portraits elicit an instinctive smile from their viewers.

Iceland is a place imano had wanted to return to since visiting the country as a student in London in the late 1990s. Join us at KOSAKU KANECHIKA on Saturday, September 3rd for “going nowhere.”
