The Storm That Wouldn’t Stop
Consider this account of an extraordinary storm.
Once, in a small rural village, a group of farmers were working peacefully in their fields.
Then one of them looked up.
Something was moving in the distance.
At first, they assumed it was an unusual cloud. As they watched, however, they realized it was not a cloud at all, but a massive, circular vortex of wind rotating violently while advancing at the same time.
It was moving directly toward them.
Then the clouds darkened.
The sky grew so dim that it seemed as though the sun had been extinguished. Moments later, thunder began to rumble overhead, one peal after another, until it sounded like hundreds of explosions occurring simultaneously.
The farmers stopped working.
No one knew what to do.
Then the hurricane reached the village.
Everything changed.
It consumed everything in its path—dust, trees, crops, and anything else that stood before it. From a safe distance, the farmers could only watch as the enormous storm continued to rotate and advance.
But the most remarkable aspect was that it did not stop.
It continued moving forward, maintaining its terrifying circular motion.
Eventually, it reached the ocean.
Everyone assumed this was where it would end.
They were mistaken.
The hurricane reached the water and continued onward.
It moved across the ocean as though nothing could diminish its strength.
Perhaps that is what makes storms so unsettling: they do not ask whether we are prepared. They simply arrive and remind us of how small we truly are.
At times, life can feel much the same. We may be working peacefully within our own small corner of the world, believing everything is normal, when suddenly a storm appears.
Yet, like every storm, it eventually passes.
