Join me online from May 2nd to uncover yet more expressive possibilities of the human body! Using the technique of Corporeal Mime as a guide we will explore how changes in the rhythm, texture, geometry, trajectory and weight of an action can be used to produce different dramatic impressions. We’ll study figures from the repertoire of Corporeal Mime as examples of stylised dramatic action and there’ll be opportunities to compose your own dramatic actions and variations thereof.
The course is ideal for:
- actors and performers looking to expand their physical vocabulary and style
- artists of any genre interested in new approaches to stylisation and creativity
- anyone curious about the expressive power of the human body
The course is led by Tania Coke, co-director of tarinainanika theatre company and the Corporeal Mime School of Performing Arts in Osaka.
SCHEDULE: The course consists of 6 Saturday classes and 6 weekday technical training sessions. Participants will have access to recordings of all sessions so it’s not a problem if you cannot attend in real time. The Saturday classes will take place from 7-8.30pm Japan time on May 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th and June 6th. The weekday sessions are tentatively scheduled for Monday mornings from 8-9am JST (to be confirmed after discussing with registered participants).
ACCESS: the classes are run via Zoom. The link to each class will be shared through Patreon, as will the class recordings and all other communications relevant to the course.
LANGUAGE: The course will be led in English but non English speakers are greatly welcome. Written instructions will be provided wherever possible so you can translate using an app, and support can be given in 日本語 and français within the time constraints.
COST: pay-what-you-can
