Hello everyone!
Starting from today, we will be introducing the works of Fumito Mochida every other week. Not only will we showcase his art, but we will also share stories about him, inviting you to enjoy the world of "fu-mine Copperworks."
For our inaugural presentation, we are delighted to share the behind-the-scenes story of the signboard creation for "Gonokami Seisakusho Series Ramen Itsuki"
Among the signs created by Mochida, the most renowned are those for the Gonokami Seisakusho series of ramen shops. Mochida has crafted signs for all six of their locations. The flagship store, "Ramen Itsuki," was established in 2007 in Hamura City, Tokyo, and Mochida created its sign in 2008. Though the original store was later destroyed by fire, Mochida's sign survived and is now displayed as a good luck charm at the entrance of the newly rebuilt flagship store in Ome City, Tokyo.
The sign's base is made of wood, with letters fashioned from brass and a sea bream crafted from copper plates. The components are primarily assembled using the "brazing" technique. The body of the sea bream features a distinctive red color achieved through the "akadashi technique," unique to copper plate crafting. The eyes are made from glass spheres, giving the figure a lifelike appearance. Although the Gono-Kami Seisakusho series, including "Itsuki," are now renowned establishments, it all started with this small but significant sign.
