May the season remind us of our hope that came down to earth…Emmanuel.

“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.”
‭‭
Psalm‬ ‭130‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Deers can still be found in Kasuga Taisha Shrine. They are more wary with humans than those in town. Walking around the shrine in the thick of the forest and occasionally some deers would walk by. The rain, the trees, the lamps, the mountains and fog in the distance and the minimal tourists made it a relaxing stroll.

Aah the beautiful . I call this, the shrine with a thousand lamps and you will see why in the pictures. They said that they light up all the lamps at a certain time of the year but I forgot when. That would be a sight to behold.
Although we were all soaked from the torrential rain, nothing can dampen our joy in beholding God’s work in nature and appreciating the fact that we reached the shrine even with weather. In good weather the shrine would have been magical in the setting sun, but after the downpour the place was ethereal. I thank God we made it there and thank God more for the friends who braved the storm and managed to still smile and “dance” in the rain. ☔️ ❤️ 😊

A tropical storm rolled as we reached Todaiji Temple. We were soaked (I thank God for my waterproof shoes, which kept my feet dry). We took shelter at the nearby café and waited until the storm passed. Then we proceeded to Nara Park towards Katsuga Taisha Shrine. The storm hampered our plans but it was an experience and we learned the importance of waterproof apparels. Hahaha. 🌧️ ☔️

Nara on a rainy day. In fact, there was a tropical storm by the time we reached Todaiji Temple (next post). Nevertheless, the foggy mountain backdrop was just so pretty. Also, I am so happy to be able to try the freshly made mochi at Nakatanidou. This mochi lover is happy! 🥰

Places: Sanjo Dori Street, Sarusawa-ike pond, Kofuku-ji Temple, Nikatanidou (fresh mochi shop).

The second part of the hike from Minoh Falls to the nearest train station. It was almost another 4km walk (in the end we walked almost 8km from Katsuoji Temple). This time through the forest that has warm street lamps, a shrine and small hotels and restaurants. My Spirited Away experience continues. Without the lampposts it would have been already dark in the area due to the significant foliage. We were very tired at this point, but the almost surreal environment distracted us. I kept thinking, how wonderful it would be to experience sleeping in one of the quaint hotels in that area and wake up in that forest. 😌 🌳 🍂

One of the places that has made this ghibli-fan’s heart full. It was as if I stepped into Spirited Away’s world for a while. I thank God that we persevered with the hike and reach the Minoh park area just before dusk and saw the warm lights dotting the forest. On top of that, we met the most friendly and most fluffy group of golden retrievers. 🥰

The 4km++ hike from Katsuoji temple to Minoh Falls. It was less tiring because of the cool temperature and the beauty of nature that enveloped us. Even when the route was at the road side, I still loved the hike, specially when you hear the water rushing down the mountain. 😌 🌳 ☀️ 🍁

The vermillion temple structures with the sky as its backdrop, mirrors the auburn autumn leaves on a clear day 😍. It is like a snapshot of nature. The beauty and intricacies of the design is just inspiring, not to mention the thousands of tiny daruma dolls (which seem to be handmade) strewn all over the place. It made me wonder how human hands can create beauty. Though how much more awe inspiring is the Creator?

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.” - ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Osaka castle is still majestic even if this is my second time seeing it. What made this stroll around its area is our Gozabune boat ride around the moat, our short onigiri break at the park and people watching. I was also so happy to see the yellow ginko tree. I find yellow gingko tree so pretty. It is interesting that the leaf’s edge is still green.

A village of old Japanese thatched houses. A cultural heritage carefully preserved that is located in Miyama. I believe there are residents still in this village. Surprisingly we had the most deliciously thick and juicy omelette sando from a sandwich cafe located within the village.
