私たちが今、服についていることを当たり前に思っているポケットは、いったいいつごろ生まれ、どんな変化を経て現在の形になっていったのだろう？ 本レクチャーでは、社会学・ファッション研究を専門にする成実弘至をナビゲーターに、「ポケット」を糸口に服飾の歴史をたどる。ふだん何気なく使っているポケットの背景を知ることで、毎日の装いに新しい視点が加わるかも。

講師：成実弘至（京都女子大学教授／社会学、ファッション研究）

We take the pockets on our clothing for granted nowadays, but when did they first appear, and what kinds of transformations might they have gone through to take on their current shape? This lecture will trace the history of clothing through the lens of pockets, navigated by Hiroshi Narumi, who specializes in sociology and fashion studies. By learning about the history of the pocket, which we use without a thought everyday, perhaps you will acquire a new perspective on your daily style.

2019年に香港で起きた民主化運動の際、警察に包囲され、香港理工大学に籠城したデモ隊の姿を克明に記録した映画『理大囲城』を上映する。上映後に行うトークを通して、あの時、香港で何が起きていたのか、そしてあの出来事がどのような影響を与えたのかを探る。

We will screen Inside the Red Brick Wall, which provides a detailed record of the protesters who barricaded themselves inside the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and were surrounded by police during the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement of 2019. Through a talk, we will explore what happened in Hong Kong during that time, and the impacts of that event.

膨大なアーカイブをもとに緻密なリサーチを積み重ねるホー・ルイアンは、世にあまねく視覚文化を引用しながら、歴史と権力に対する鋭い批評を投げかけてきた。ホー自身が独自の手法について語るこのトークでは、今回上演するレクチャー・パフォーマンス『歴史のすがた／知能の立脚点』を着想したきっかけやプロセスを中心に、これまでの活動についてもじっくり掘り下げて聞いていく。

Building up a meticulous body of research from vast archival sources, Ho Rui An constructs a scathing critique of history and power while referencing visual cultures from all over the world. 現代演劇の第一線で活躍し、フランスを代表するアヴィニョン演劇祭の芸術監督も務めるポルトガルの劇作家・演出家、ティアゴ・ロドリゲス。昨年のフェスティバルでは国際人道支援の現場に取材してロドリゲスが執筆した戯曲『不可能の限りにおいて』をリーディング公演として紹介し、今年は彼自身の演出・出演による『By Heart—心で覚える』の上演が実現する。本トークではロドリゲスの作品をひもときながら、創作の原点や多彩なアプローチに迫る。

Portuguese playwright and director Tiago Rodrigues works at the forefront of contemporary theater, and also serves as Artistic Director of the Festival d’Avignon, France’s most prestigious international theater festival. At last year’s festival, we presented a reading performance of his play, Dans la mesure de l’impossible, which was based on his research into the frontlines of international humanitarian aid. This year, we will present By Heart , which is both directed and performed by Rodrigues. In this talk, he will unpack his works and share his insights about his varied approaches and the starting point of his creative process.

アーティストのアイディアが凝縮された単語を収集し、新しい辞書をつくるプロジェクト「Future Dictionary（フューチャー・ディクショナリー）」。翻訳の過程で失われてしまう微細なニュアンスも含めて共有してきたこの企画は、2023年に上海拠点のキュレーター、オフェリア・ジアダイ・ホァンが発案し、KYOTO EXPERIMENTと協働で展開してきた。今回は、創作にまつわるさまざまな言葉が収蔵されている京都芸術センターの図書室で、アジア圏のアーティストたちと編んできたアーカイブを紹介する展覧会をひらく。

Future Dictionary is a project collecting words that can be seen as distillations of artists’ ideas to create a new dictionary. Sharing the subtle nuances that are lost in the process of translation, this project was initiated in 2023 by Shanghai-based curator Ophelia Jiadai Huang and has been developed in collaboration with Kyoto Experiment. This exhibition will be held at the library of Kyoto Art Center, where various words concerning the creative process are stored—introducing an archive that has been woven together with artists from across Asia.

Rocks are humans’ oldest medium, and at times, have also been used as a tool of resistance. Pockets quietly accept the everyday and the precious, carrying them across far distances with the body. The night before the festival commences, artist Toru Koyamada and art researcher Hiroshi Yoshioka engage in a conversation to carefully unpack this year’s festival key phrase: “Carrying a pebble in my pocket.” Please join us for this warm-up before the festival period begins.

🧬KYOTO EXPERIMENT consists of three programs🧬

The festival is unique in that it is composed of three programs each with a different approach. “Kansai Studies” researches the Kansai region from an artist’s perspective and aims to cultivate a foundation for future creation; “Shows,” is a lineup of experimental performing arts from around the world; and “Super Knowledge for the Future (SKF),” is a series of talks and workshops that explore the relationship between experimental performing arts and various different topics beyond the world of art. Feel free to start anywhere and experience any one or several of the programs as you wish!
