Japan's Delicious New Year's Eve Tradition

People eat toshikoshi soba (year-crossing noodles) on December 31st in Japan as a tradition symbolizing longevity, good fortune, and letting go of the past year's hardships to welcome the new year with hope, health, and prosperity. The long noodles represent a long life, their easy breakage cuts ties with the old year's troubles, and historically, soba also helped goldsmiths collect gold dust, bringing financial luck 🍀
