Brought Assam to Tokyo.
At SneakerCon Tokyo, I revealed this giant hand-drawn Adidas Superstar — a piece that blends Assamese and Japanese culture. The sneaker itself carries two heels: one designed with Assamese motifs, the other with Japanese patterns. It’s a visual dialogue between two traditions, stitched together on the same canvas.
Behind the shoe stands a large Japi from Assam and a Torii gate from Japan. The word “Super” is written in Assamese, “Star” in Japanese. It’s more than a sneaker. It’s a story about places, people, and how heritage can travel thousands of miles to meet on a single pair.
This wasn’t the only piece. I also brought jackets crafted with Muga silk from Assam, prints of sneaker artworks, and custom name tags for sneakers in Assamese script. For many visitors, it was their first introduction to Assamese art and textile culture — right there in the middle of Tokyo’s buzzing sneaker scene.
Watching people stop, smile, and take photos reminded me why I do this. Assam has stories that deserve a global stage. Through sneakers, jackets, and hand-drawn art, I’m making sure they get there.
A proud Assamese, as always!
