An archival volume shedding new light on one of the most iconic record cover images in French popular culture.

Bleu Melody is a publication by French photographer Tony Frank. It brings together rare archival material related to Serge Gainsbourg’s 1971 album Histoire de Melody Nelson, whose cover featured Jane Birkin, then Gainsbourg’s wife. Through contact sheets, slides, proofs and Frank’s own recollections of the shoot, the book revisits a world-famous image from multiple angles and offers a renewed understanding of its making.

More than a simple archival supplement, the publication reveals the photographic process behind an image that has become inseparable from the mythology surrounding Gainsbourg and Birkin. It stands as both a document of a particular moment in French visual culture and a compact but rich study of image-making itself.

写真、フィクション、そして現代社会への批評性が交差する本書は、視覚的な連なりと文学的な声が拮抗しながら進む、没入感のある読書体験を生み出している。

A collaborative artist’s book weaving together photography and text into a dystopian vision of a hyper-connected urban world shaped by circulation, exclusion and desire.

SUMER is an artist’s book by Spanish photographer Óscar Monzón and French writer Arthur Larrue. Bringing image and text into close dialogue, the publication combines a powerful photographic sequence by Monzón with a dystopian narrative by Larrue, set in a world-city structured by highways, logistical flows and consumer culture. Through the marginal figures of Óscar and Gabrielle, the book explores themes of exclusion, control and desire.

At the intersection of photography, fiction and contemporary social critique, SUMER creates an immersive reading experience in which visual rhythm and literary voice remain in tension with one another.

伊丹の関心は、何をどのように撮るかという撮影以前の問いよりも、写真となったあとに、それがなぜそのように見えるのかという、イメージの立ち現れ方そのものに向けられている。透過、反射、反復、レイヤーといった要素が絡み合う写真は、意味や物語を前面に押し出すのではなく、ひとつの視覚的な複合体として私たちの前に差し出される。

本書では、そうした伊丹の特徴的な視点を端的に構成することで、ページをめくるなかで生まれる連関よりも、一枚一枚のイメージが持つ強度そのものへ意識を向けさせるつくりとなっている。写真の束をアクリルで挟み込んだ特殊な造本が、作品の鋭さをいっそう際立たせている。

A photobook with an innovative acrylic-bound form, exploring how images appear, overlap and take shape beyond narrative or fixed meaning.

This year’s model is a photobook by Japanese photographer Go Itami. Rather than focusing on the pre-photographic question of what to shoot and how to shoot it, Itami’s interest lies in how an image appears after it has become a photograph, and why it comes to look the way it does. Through photographs in which transparency, reflection, repetition and layering intertwine, his work does not foreground meaning or narrative, but presents itself as a kind of visual composite.

By distilling this distinctive perspective into book form, This year’s model directs attention less to the relationships that emerge from turning pages than to the force of each individual image. Its unusual construction, in which the stack of photographs is held between acrylic covers, further sharpens the work’s visual intensity.

顔のあるさまざまなモノを収集・販売するショップ、ONDOによる作品集。

本書は、ONDOがこれまでに収集してきた「顔のあるオブジェ」のコレクションをまとめた一冊である。

ONDOは、人の表情のような「顔」があるモノ、あるいは顔に見えるモノに着目し、そこに立ち上がる想像力や感情の広がりを丁寧にすくい取っている。人の名前から顔を思い浮かべること、漫画や映画の登場人物の表情から何かを読み取ること、あるいは他者の顔色をうかがうこと。そうした日常的な経験を手がかりにしながら、モノのなかに顔を見出すことの面白さを探っている。

本書には、個性豊かなオブジェの数々に加え、写真家・濵本奏によるタレントのルー大柴のポートレートや、SF（soulful）作家・山塚リキマルによるテキストも収録。顔を起点に想像力が飛躍していく、SF考古学とも呼びたくなるような作品集となっている。

ONDO

A publication by ONDO, a shop dedicated to collecting and selling objects with faces.

Ha-Ha! “CATALOGUE” No.1 brings together ONDO’s collection of face-like objects gathered over the years. Focusing on things that either possess a face-like expression or appear to resemble a face, ONDO explores the imaginative and emotional possibilities that emerge from such encounters.

To picture a face from a person’s name, to read expression from the characters in manga or film, or to sense meaning in another person’s look—these familiar experiences form the basis of ONDO’s interest in finding faces within objects. Alongside a wide range of distinctive items, the book also includes a portrait of the entertainer Lou Oshiba by photographer Kanade Hamamoto, as well as a text by soulful fiction writer Rikimaru Yamatsuka. The result is a publication that might be described as a kind of speculative archaeology, in which the face becomes the starting point for expanding acts of imagination.
