小さな彫刻が、空間の見え方を変える。

杉でつくられた二つの《Mapping icon》。

壁面に置かれた小さな形は、作品そのものだけでなく、その位置や周囲の余白にも意識を向けさせます。

上と下、作品と壁、形と空白。それぞれの関係をたどることで、何もないように見えた場所も、鑑賞の対象へと変わっていきます。

大きさではなく、配置によって周囲の空間に作用する彫刻です。

Small sculptures can change the way a space is perceived.

The two cedar works titled Mapping icon draw attention not only to their forms, but also to their positions and the empty wall surrounding them.

均衡は、静止ではなく、力が働き続けている状態です。

《傾きを保持するための彫刻》は、アクリル板、鉄、木、糸、モルタル、歯車によって構成されています。

硬さ、重さ、細さ、透明性の異なる素材が結びつき、一つの傾きを保っています。

止まっているように見える形の中にも、重力、張力、支える力が働いています。

作品タイトルが示すのは、完成した形だけではありません。その状態を成立させ続けている、目には見えにくい力の関係です。

Balance is not simply stillness, but a condition sustained by active forces.

Sculpture for Maintaining an Inclination is composed of acrylic, iron, wood, thread, mortar, and a gear.

Materials with different weights, textures, and properties interact to maintain a particular inclination. Even within an apparently still form, gravity, tension, and supporting forces remain active.

The exhibition continues through Tuesday, August 4, closing at 5:00pm.

《Reversible（小）》は、竹と枠によって構成されています。

竹の細さや軽やかさは、作品が示す方向を際立たせると同時に、その周囲にある余白も意識させます。

大型の《Reversible》と共通する構造を持ちながら、素材とスケールの違いによって、空間への作用は異なります。

二つの作品を見比べることで、形だけでなく、素材、寸法、設置場所が彫刻の知覚をどのように変えるのかが見えてきます。

How does the same structure change through material and scale?

Reversible (Small) is composed of bamboo and a frame.

The slender, lightweight bamboo emphasises direction while also drawing attention to the empty space around the work.

Although it shares a structural idea with the larger Reversible, its material and scale create a different relationship with its surroundings.

わずか6cmの高さから、地形を想像する。

《Crevasse》は、横幅100cmのセラミック作品です。

床面に近い位置へ置かれた低い形態をたどるうちに、鑑賞者の視線も下方へ導かれます。

タイトルが意味するのは「裂け目」。しかし、実在する地形を再現した模型ではありません。

素材の起伏や輪郭を手がかりとして、見る人の中に地面や境界、距離の感覚が立ち上がります。

Imagining a landscape from a form only six centimetres high.

Crevasse is a ceramic work extending 100 centimetres across the floor.

Its low position draws the viewer’s gaze downward. The title means “a fissure,” yet the work does not reproduce an actual landscape.

Its surface and outline evoke sensations of ground, boundary, and distance within the viewer’s perception.

Hayate Chaen’s solo exhibition, Uncontrolled Diorama, brings together works of different scales, materials, and directions to form a landscape across the gallery.

As viewers approach, step back, and move sideways, the distances and relationships between the works continually shift.

Sculpture is fixed to a single viewpoint in a photograph. In the gallery, it can be experienced through the movement of one’s own body and gaze.

A familiar material can become another presence through the act of seeing.

《銀の口》 is made from chewing gum and a frame.

Before and after learning the material; before and after reading the title—the object remains unchanged, yet the way we perceive its form and scale begins to shift.

Chaen’s attention is directed not only toward the object itself, but toward the continuous movement of perception between object and background, form and meaning, detail and totality.

Look first at the form, then consider its material and title. A different work may begin to appear.

ベニヤ板でつくられた《舟》。

タイトルは、作品の見方を決定する答えではありません。形と題名の間を視線が往復することで、目の前の構造から水面、移動、浮遊といった別の風景が想像されていきます。

At what point do we begin to see this form as a boat?

《舟》 is constructed from plywood.

Its title does not provide a fixed answer. As perception moves between the title and the physical form, the work may evoke water, passage, suspension, or an imagined landscape beyond the object itself.

In Chaen’s work, meaning is not determined in advance. It is continually reorganised as the viewer moves between interior and exterior, object and floor, sculpture and surrounding space.

Experience the moment when an object begins to emerge as a landscape.

細い一本の構造から、広い風景を想像する。

竹と鉄によって構成された《田園》は、高さ20cmに対して幅180cmという、水平に長く伸びる彫刻です。

限られた形と素材でありながら、作品の周囲には視線が移動するための余白があります。端から端へと作品を追ううちに、目の前の構造は単独の物体ではなく、広がりを持つ風景として知覚され始めます。

茶圓颯がつくるのは、特定の風景を再現した模型ではありません。物の配置、空間との距離、鑑賞者の視線によって、風景が生まれるための条件です。

作品だけでなく、その上下左右にある空間も含めてご覧ください。

Imagining an expansive landscape from a single slender structure.

Composed of bamboo and iron, 《田園》 extends horizontally across 180 centimetres while measuring only 20 centimetres in height.

Its restrained form leaves space for the viewer’s gaze to travel. As our attention moves from one end to the other, the structure begins to appear not merely as an isolated object, but as a landscape with its own breadth and rhythm.

Chaen does not reproduce a particular landscape. He creates the conditions through which one may emerge—from the placement of objects, their distance from the surrounding space, and the movement of the viewer’s gaze.

Please observe not only the sculpture, but also the space that extends around it.

鳥が頬杖をつくとしたら。

《鳥の頬杖》というタイトルは、目の前にある形を説明するのではなく、鑑賞者の想像を現実とは少し異なる風景へと導きます。

竹、糸、タモによる細い構造。わずかな均衡で保たれているような形から、鳥の身体や姿勢、次に起こるかもしれない動きが想起されます。

作品を見ることと、作品から風景を想像すること。その往復によって、作品は名前や用途から離れ、別の存在へと変わり始めます。

What if a bird could rest its cheek upon its hand?

The title A Bird Resting Its Cheek does not simply explain the form before us. It leads the viewer’s imagination toward a landscape slightly removed from everyday reality.

Its delicate structure of bamboo, thread, and netting appears to exist in a state of subtle balance. From it, we may imagine a bird’s body, posture, or an action yet to occur.

Through the movement between seeing the object and imagining a landscape, familiar materials begin to acquire another presence.
