Kantaro Isezakiisezaki

1998 Born in Bizen, Okayama, Japan.2023 M.F.A., Sculpture, Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. Born and raised in Bizen, Okayama, the artist, familiar with traditional crafts and their connection to land from an early age, explores human land relationships. Treating the ceramic process as a sculptural action, including digging, kneading, and f iring, this work presents fired stones transformed by kiln effects, creating an altered landscape that questions what land is, its appeal that can even cause conflict, and how humans relate to it.

伊勢崎寛太郎isezaki

1998年岡山県備前市生まれ。2023年東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科彫刻専攻修了。岡山・備前で生まれ育ち、幼少期から伝統工芸と土地の関わりに親しんだ経験から、人と土地の関係性に関心を持つ。陶芸の制作過程を彫刻行為と捉え、土を掘り、練り、焼くなどの工程を通じて土地とは何かを模索。今作では石材を焼成して窯変させ、変容した土地の姿を提示し、戦争が起きるほど人々を魅了する「土地」とは何か、人との関わり、その魅力を問う空間を立ち上げる。

Bjorn Calleja Solo Exhibition “Why Do Humans Walk in Circles?”

In Why Do Humans Walk in Circles?, Bjorn Calleja captures a world on the cusp of collapse, tracing a slow drift toward a pre-apocalyptic threshold. His paintings move through the absurdity of the present, where the more things unravel, the more life continues without pause. There are no grand ruins or final catastrophe, only the uneasy persistence of the everyday as it begins to come apart.

Collapse hangs over these scenes without fully arriving: a meteor burns in the distance, bodies fold into themselves, crowds move without destination, and screens frame and distort the self. Technology promises connection while deepening alienation; the algorithm offers ease, but produces repetition and dependence. What serves you can also control you.

The exhibition returns to a familiar loop—personal, generational, and historical, with a structural and perceptual edge—where figures register the weight of the shift yet remain unmoved, continuing within it. Recognition isn’t enough to interrupt what they’re doing.

Distorted bodies and doubled gazes reflect a fractured way of seeing, where observation turns back on itself. Scattered across the surfaces, tiny recurring humanoids appear as fragments of thought, settling into the paintings as small meditations.

Ultimately, the exhibition asks why, knowing what we know, we continue anyway.

ビョルン・カレハの《Why Do Humans Walk in Circles?》において、彼は崩壊の瀬戸際にある世界を捉え、終末前夜へとゆっくりと漂っていく様子を描き出している。彼の絵画は、不条理に満ちた現在を行き来する。物事が崩壊へと向かえば向かうほど、生活はむしろ何事もなかったかのように続いていく。そこには大きな廃墟も破局も存在せず、ただ崩れ始めた日常が不穏なかたちで持続しているだけである。

崩壊はこれらの場面の上に影のように漂いながらも、決定的に到来することはない。遠くで燃える隕石、折り重なる身体、行き先もなく動く群衆、そして自分を枠に嵌めて歪めてしまうスクリーン。テクノロジーはつながりを約束しながら、むしろ疎外を深めていく。アルゴリズムは手軽さを提供する一方で、繰り返しと依存を生み出す。あなたに奉仕するものは、同時にあなたを支配しうる。

この展覧会は、個人的・世代的・歴史的な循環という、構造的かつ知覚的な鋭さを帯びた馴染み深いループへと立ち返る。そこでは人物たちは変化の重みを感じ取りながらも自ら行動を起こすことはなく、その真っただ中でただ生き続ける。変化を認識するだけでは、反復という自らの行為を中断するには至らない。

私たちは彼の作品を見つめていると同時に、見られてもいる。歪められた身体や視線は、断片化された知覚のあり方を映し出す。画面の各所に散らばる小さなヒューマノイドは、思考の断片のように現れ、小さな瞑想として絵画の中に沈殿していく。

本展は、崩壊しつつある社会と、その背景にある反復と依存の構造をすでに知っているにもかかわらず、なぜ私たちは同じ営みを続けてしまうのか、という問いを投げかけている。
