The Surugaya in Omiya had a spectacular deal on an XBOX One! A mere ¥3800, the catch was that it’s console only. Cosmetically it appeared to be free of major scratches.

I also found a clean copy of REZ for the SEGA Dreamcast. The price was comparable to other shops and online options. After some though, I passed on it give that you can find the PS2 version for much less, about 1/10! Moreover, the remastered version often goes on sale for a couple bucks.

The store itself has 6 aisles dedicated to video games and a grand showcase at the entrance. You can easily spend a chunk of time digging through the store. I’ll include more finds from this store in my next YouTube video, stay tuned!

After filming at the Hobby OFF, I made my way to the Book OFF. These store branches are located in Ashikaga, Tochigi. I’ll include the former in a future video.

I specifically decided to visit Ashikaga to continue to document all things Neo Geo. This Book OFF once had three copies of Garou Real Bout Special for the Neo Geo AES. I bought one a couple years ago and at present only one copy remains. The only other AES game that they had was King of the Monsters. Sadly both are in poor condition due to heavy sun fading.

Neo Geo ports were also well represented on a number of platforms. The console options were also decent with some having discounts. I was also happy to see that they still have the Marvel vs Capcom 2 Sega Dreamcast strategy guide!

The Joshin at Aeon Mall Hanyu (Saitama) is well stocked with Nintendo Switch games and hardware! They have way more games than what I’m showing here, and a number of them have promo discounts right now.

The Switch is a fantastic way to enjoy the Neo Geo library at present. You can save a massive amount of money compared to the original SNK Neo Geo AES and the upcoming Plaion Neo Geo AES+. Moreover, you get the benefit of playing on the go! There are already 10 “ACA Neo Geo Selection” volumes out, each packed with ten games.

Playing these on Switch is the perfect way to simmer down the FOMO and/or figuring out which titles you actually want to pick up for the AES or AES+. What a wonderful time to be a Neo Geo fan!

It’s been a few months since I last visited the Mandai Shoten in Kumagaya, Saitama. A lot of the premium stock hasn’t changed, but this shop can sit on its inventory for as long as it takes. Their big draws are trading cards, toy figures and the UFO catcher arcade.

They didn’t have any Neo Geo AES games in stock, but they had stacks of common Neo Geo CD titles. Every King of Fighters game released for the NGCD was present with multiple copies. Samurai Spirits games were also present with some having discounts!

This shop stays open until midnight. With all their inventory, you can easily spend a few hours here. Fun times!

The Surugaya in Honjo, Saitama is one of the three shops featured in my latest YouTube video. There is a decent amount of retro game stock for a number of platforms. Inventory levels are much better here than at other major retailers. This is Surugaya’s strong point!

Pricing at Surugaya is heavily influenced by global demand, so expect to see higher prices on premium retro video games. Common games remain competitively priced, and there are a few pricing exceptions for select premium games. Moreover, their current buy back offers are some of the highest in Japan. Stores regularly hold promotional campaigns that increase cash offers, too.

On the West side of Tobu Soka Station you can find Popy Specialty Game & Card Shop! I’m not sure if there are more locations other than this Soka branch, but it has a charming, quaint vibe.

I found a decently priced copy of Virtua Fighter 2 for the PlayStation 2! This is a title I’ve been wanting in my collection for quite sometime. Another great find was the Hori PSP GO screen protector. I can finally add an extra layer of protection to my PSP GO.

A lot of the stock is unfortunately sun faded, but digging deep enough may yield some treasures. Finding this shop was a nice surprise as I made my way to the Momotaro Kingdom!
