Celebration of Gene Pearson's Life
Saturday March 24th at 8:00pm
Gene Pearson died suddenly last week Thursday March 15th. He was a fantastic ceramist whose iconic heads are instantly recognizable. The Jamaican art world has truly lost one of it’s finest! Gene was always cool and calm, relaxed and reserved, not a man of many words but when you were lucky enough to have a conversation, they were great!
“I have always thought that my work speaks for me. I am not a man who does speak much. My work is very spiritual. All my powers come from God and nature and I execute them through clay. I feel it is my duty to work. I create my own environment to work. My inspiration comes from my surroundings. I do not (create) to please people. My work must please me first before I can let go of it. I do not create for one special person”.
