MARY ISSA HEALTH CENTER NEARS COMPLETION!

Press release
Friday September 19, 2025:

The lssa Trust Foundation's Mary Issa Pediatric & Adolescent Health Centre is almost complete and marks two decades of service while advancing its mission to provide world-class health care for Jamaican children. Paul Issa, Chairman of The lssa Trust Foundation says "With this health centre we will bring lasting benefits to our young people, addressing the physical, mental, and social health challenges faced by children and teenagers on the North Coast and across Jamaica".

He also added, "Itis a significant commitment, but one that donors can take pride in knowing they are helping to transform the landscape of healthcare for generations to come".

The Mary Issa Health Center is located in Richmond, St Ann and will provide first class health care for children ranging from newborns to teens. Under one roof, families will find general paediatrics, speciality clinics, mental health and counselling support. Also at the health centre will be a full vision suite where children can receive an eye exam and have their lenses made on-site. No child will be turned away for lack of means.

The Issa Trust Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Couples Resorts.

Jamaica becoming an Independent Nation meant that Britain, no longer controlled the affairs of the country. It was now the responsibility of the newly elected Prime Minister and the locally elected Cabinet.

Independence also meant that a Constitution, symbols, emblems, an army, Jamaican currency and passports had to be developed for the country.

As an Independent Nation, Jamaica assigns Ambassadors overseas who represent the country. They sign treaties on behalf of Jamaica and become members of various international organisations. This is important, as it gives Jamaica equal rights on various issues relating to international trade, policies and treaties.

Every year on August 6, (previously first Monday in August), Jamaicans celebrate the removal of our dependence on Britain to control.

Miss Trelawny Unable to Participate in Festival Queen Coronation Due to Health Concerns

Kingston, Jamaica [August 02] — The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) extends heartfelt support and best wishes to Miss Trelawny Festival Queen 2025, Selena Angus, who will be unable to participate in the National Festival Queen Coronation, scheduled for Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, due to a sudden medical emergency.

Miss Angus was one of thirteen parish queens in Kingston actively preparing for the grand coronation and had been fully engaged in all national activities. She participated in official courtesy calls, took part in rehearsals, and was poised to represent Trelawny with grace and pride on the national stage. Following a recent medical evaluation, however, her doctors have advised that she remain under their care and refrain from further participation in the competition.

“We understand that this news will come as a disappointment to many who have followed her journey, but we ask for the public’s continued prayers and support as she focuses on rest and recovery,” said Mr. Lenford Salmon, Executive Director. “The entire JCDC family, along with the Festival Queen network, stands in full solidarity with her and her loved ones during this challenging time.”

The remaining twelve parish queens have also extended their best wishes to Selena as they continue preparations to proudly represent their parishes on August 2 at the National Indoor Sports Centre. The shared sentiment among the contestants is that while Selena’s absence will be deeply felt, her spirit remains present in this celebration of Jamaican womanhood, service, and cultural pride.
