“The exhibition brings into dialogue four artistic practices united by a shared reflection on making gesture and a direct engagement with material. Through processes of construction, manipulation, and transformation, materials become the point of departure for exploring the expressive potential of form. From scratch is an English idiom that refers to building something from the very beginning. The expression evokes the intimate act of making and the gesture that transforms it.”

Bernard Ammerer è nato a Vienna nel 1978 dove tuttora vive e lavora. Ha iniziato il suo percorso accademico con una laurea in legge, ottenuta nel 2001, per poi dedicarsi completamente alla pittura. Dal 2003 al 2010 ha studiato alla Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien (Università per le Arti Applicate di Vienna) sotto la guida di docenti come Johanna Kandl e Wolfgang Herzig, con una partecipazione anche alla Sommerakademie für Bildende Kunst Salzburg nel 2004 con la pittrice Xenia Hausner.
Il suo linguaggio si fonda su una pittura attenta alla resa della luce, della materia e dei dettagli.
Al centro della sua ricerca vi è l’idea di momento sospeso: le sue opere sembrano catturare un frammento di tempo carico di attesa, in cui qualcosa è appena accaduto o sta per accadere. Le figure, spesso isolate o immerse in ambienti paesaggistici appaiono come presenze enigmatiche, attraversate da una tensione interiore che invita lo spettatore a costruire una narrazione possibile.
Nel complesso, la pittura di Bernard Ammerer si configura come un’indagine sulla condizione contemporanea, che esplora il rapporto tra individuo e ambiente, tra realtà visibile e tensione interiore, restituendo immagini che si muovono tra concretezza e mistero.

Kate Waters (nata nel 1964 a Vallée-Lourdes, Canada) è una pittrice e artista visiva, che vive e lavora a Düsseldorf (Germania). Dopo aver intrapreso gli studi artistici in Inghilterra, si è formata presso la Bath Academy of Art e successivamente alla Slade School of Art di Londra, dove ha consolidato la propria ricerca artistica. Il suo lavoro prende spesso avvio da fotografie - scatti urbani, frammenti di paesaggio, scene quotidiane - che vengono rielaborate attraverso un processo pittorico capace di trasformare l’istantaneità dello scatto in un’esperienza più lenta e meditativa. Al centro della sua ricerca vi è l’indagine sulla percezione visiva, Waters non si limita a tradurre fedelmente l’immagine fotografica, ma la scompone, la sfoca, la filtra attraverso velature cromatiche e variazioni di luce che ne alterano la nitidezza. La dimensione urbana occupa un ruolo centrale nella sua produzione. Le sue composizioni evocano atmosfere sospese, talvolta attraversate da una luce diffusa che attenua i contorni e restituisce un senso di temporalità fluida. Le figure e gli spazi appaiono spesso colti in transito, come se l’immagine fosse attraversata da un movimento interno che allude alla precarietà e alla mutevolezza dell’esperienza contemporanea.

“Here and There arises as a subtle dialogue between presence and distance, between what is offered to the gaze and what continues to vibrate in memory. The title does not indicate two distinct places, but rather a perceptual shift: that intermediate space in which experience transforms into image and the image redefines experience. The exhibition brings together the research of Kate Waters, Bernard Ammerer, Mickaël Doucet and Johannes Kersting around a shared reflection on time and light as structural elements of contemporary painting.

Their works do not simply describe environments or situations; they construct visual devices in which time slows down and perception becomes more conscious. In all three artists, painting is never immediate nor narrative in the traditional sense. It is a process of subtraction, concentration and suspension, a way of holding onto the instant and making it resonate beyond its evidence” (…)
